However, he does have a specific condition if he were to take on the role of Spider-Man in a live-action adaptation. Peter B. Parker, introduced in the animated Oscar-winning film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, is portrayed as an endearingly disheveled and somewhat jaded version of the Marvel superhero. In the storyline, he reluctantly becomes a mentor to Miles Morales after being unexpectedly transported to another dimension.
In a conversation with ComicBook.com, Johnson was asked about his interest in playing the live-action version of Peter B. Parker, a character he voices in both the 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its 2023 sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
There’s Just One Thing That Might Tempt Jake Johnson into the Live-action Realm
Jake Johnson, one of the stars of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has expressed a reluctance to delve into the realm of live-action Spider-Verse unless a particular condition is met. Despite no official announcement regarding a live-action Spider-Verse, Johnson has made it clear that he lacks genuine enthusiasm for bringing his character, Peter B. Parker, into the live-action.
However, he has indicated a willingness to reconsider if the project involves the Spider-Verse directors, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller. In an interview with Comic Book, Johnson emphasized the significance of their involvement, suggesting that their participation would be the key factor influencing his decision to take on the live-action role.
“I really love how it is. I think the animation is great. I think for me, truthfully, it’s all about Phil Lord and Chris Miller. If Phil Lord or Chris texted and said, ‘We think this is really cool and we would like you to be part of it,’ then I’m in. If it’s Sony that says they have got a really fun idea and it’s a new director who’s at a great studio rate, I feel less excited about that. I think that a lot of this stuff is … There’s an element that’s just money to make money, and projects just to make money. And then there’s a few people who really care, and those people who really care, if it’s them, I’m on board for anything.”
While fans eagerly await the next chapter in the beloved Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse remains shrouded in mystery after it was removed from Sony’s release calendar in July 2023. And this update from Johnson might upset a few.

Jake Johnson is Yet to Lend His Voice to Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse
The anticipation for the final installment of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse trilogy, titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, has been palpable among fans. While the initial expectation was a release in March 2024, the ambitious nature of the project and the groundbreaking animation showcased in its predecessor, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, led to an inevitable delay. In an interview with Cinema Blend, Johnson was asked if he has recorded any dialogue for it yet. He said:
“Nothing. Well, I will say, I can’t say anything about (the release date), but I will say with recording of actors, things can go fast. So, my not recording truly means nothing. If you find out the animators hadn’t started animating, then that’s a different thing. But there’s Really no breaking news from a voiceover actor. Even if we try to break it. If they wanted to… like I did a movie for Wildwood Studios. I might be saying that wrong. If I am, I feel embarrassed. But I recorded my entire role in one day.“
