Orton’s confession is even more remarkable when you consider that the game was released just a few years ago. To put it in perspective, completing the game and its recent DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, typically takes about 180 hours for a thorough playthrough. Yet Orton has managed to triple that time.

The reason behind Orton’s extensive gameplay hours is not just his passion for the game but also the time he had during his recovery from spinal fusion surgery. This surgery sidelined Orton from WWE for 18 months, giving him ample opportunity to dive deep into the Lands Between.

The recent release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has probably only fueled his obsession further. He mentioned the release of the new DLC and poked fun at the fact that after his kids went to bed every night, he’d be hooked to the game.

During the interview, Cody Rhodes, who is also known for his gaming interests, couldn’t help but poke fun at Orton’s obsession. Despite Rhodes’ own packed schedule as the Undisputed Champion, which leaves little time for gaming, Orton’s enthusiasm was infectious. Orton even jokingly expressed his wish that Rhodes were a “fellow Tarnished.”

Orton’s deep dive into the Soulsborne also speaks volumes about the game’s enduring appeal. Released in February 2022, the game has captivated millions of players worldwide with its vast, open-world design and intricate gameplay.

Moreover, Orton’s story highlights the therapeutic role that video games can play, particularly during times of recovery. His spinal fusion surgery provided him ample time to play the game. With their complex worlds and challenging gameplay, these games give us entertainment and a form of mental stimulation and distraction during difficult times.

For someone like Orton, who is used to high-stakes, adrenaline-pumping action in the wrestling ring, the Soulsborne offers a different kind of challenge. One that requires strategy, patience, and perseverance. The fact that a wrestling superstar finds himself lost in the game is a testament to its quality.
