When Chloe Grace Moretz Fooled Martin Scorsese Into Thinking She Was British

Back in 2011, veteran director Martin Scorsese set his sights on creating the adventure/fantasy movie titled Hugo. The movie starred Asa Butterfield as the lead alongside Ben Kingsley and Chloe Grace Moretz for the ride.

Well, for the part of Isabelle, Scorsese was only looking for British actresses and not people with an American accent. In an interview, Chloe Grace Moretz revealed that to convince Martin Scorsese, she created an entirely fake story of how her parents were horse breeders and that they lived in the Cotswolds. Luckily for Moretz, the Shutter Island director believed in the tale and cast her for the rale.

“Funny enough I did fool Martin Scorsese into thinking that I was. I had auditioned for a movie called Hugo Cabret and he was only gonna hire British girl, and I was like, “Yeah, I can do that.” So I went into the audition and I fully pretended to be from England, and that my parents were horse breeders, and that we lived in the Cotswolds. I had a whole, told big lie, a huge lie, and then I booked the part.”

It wasn’t after shooting had begun and was well underway after its first month when Scorsese suddenly asked why Chloe Grace Moretz was talking in an American accent. The actress had to eventually come clean and told that she would be British if she believed in her own lie hard enough.

“And it was like a month into production that he was like, “Wait, are you just doing an American accent?” And I was like, “No.” I’m like American, like my accent is southern naturally if I don’t iron it out. I guess maybe I am British. I don’t know. It depends if I believe my own lie.”

Since the talk was in the year 2011, it didn’t matter much. In current times, however, Martin Scorsese has reached a new level of fame. With fame by his side, it seems that Scorsese’s upcoming magnum opus will not face any delay despite the ongoing protest and strikes!

Riding high on the wave of excitement, Martin Scorsese is currently busy with his upcoming magnum opus Killers of the Flower Moon. With the indefinite delays faced by almost every project in Hollywood due to the SAG-AFTRA protest and the WGA strike, Scorsese will not delay the release of his movie.

As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Martin Scorsese hopes that his name will be enough for people to get drawn to the theaters. The film, led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, are not allowed any promotion of the film but Scorsese remains unbothered.

Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon is set for a release date of 6th October in theaters across the U.S. following which it will get an OTT release on Apple TV+.
