In the romantic drama movie The Power Of The Dog, Benedict Cumberbatch played the role of a rancher named Phil Burbank. The movie was directed by Jane Campion and it was released on 19 November 2021. For the Sherlock actor, it was important for him to stay in the character even when the camera wasn’t filming him. While talking about how prepared to get into the character of Phil the rancher, the British actor said,

“I wanted that layer of stink on me. I wanted people in the room to know what I smelt like. It was hard, though. It wasn’t just in rehearsals. I was a bit embarrassed by the cleaner, in the place I was living. “If someone forgot, on the first day, and called me Benedict, I wouldn’t move.”

When asked about smoking cigarettes during the filming the actor said,

“That was really hard. Filterless rollies, just take after take after take. I gave myself nicotine poisoning three times. When you have to smoke a lot, it genuinely is horrible. I really wanted to become world class at the banjo. And I’m very much not. I’m very far off.”

When the movie was released in the year 2021, fans loved the actor’s performance in the romantic drama. The movie was based on the book written by Thomas Savage which was of the same name.
