Actress Hannah Waddingham recently appeared on ABC’s talk show, The View, and explained that working in Ted Lasso with actor Jason Sudeikis was a “unique” experience because he didn’t care about her tall frame. She said,

“When I went in for this, Jason [Sudeikis] was like, ‘I don’t care if she wears four-inch heels. Let’s do it.’ I was like 45 when we started shooting, which, in itself, is fabulous and unusual… ridiculous that it’s so unusual but the fact that he was just like, ‘No, I don’t care that she’s taller than me,’ That is a completely unique situation to find yourself in where the man is so generous that they want to raise you up and celebrate everything that you are and not that you are, like, some skinny mini.”

Hannah Waddingham’s height is 5 feet 11 inches while Jason Sudeikis is about 6 feet tall. So, while wearing heels, Waddingham was taller than him in multiple scenes.

Waddingham also explained that because of her height, she has faced a lot of difficulties in the entertainment industry. She said,

“I think being a woman who is not small, very tall, I had always struggled. You know, the amount of times they’d just be like, ‘Well, you know, we’ve already cast a guy who is five-foot-seven,’ or, ‘We’ve already cast a guy that’s this big,’ and you’re like, ‘Okay!'”

Even today, many casting directors prefer to hire a female lead star that is shorter than the male lead star. If the height difference is more than 3-4 inches, it’s hard to fit the two characters in the same frame without making it look silly.
