John Leguizamo is quite a well-known name in Hollywood. He has established himself as a true talent, having starred in projects of all genres. From working in John Wick to Ice Age, and even The Menu, he has definitely explored the range that the film industry has to offer. However, every actor must start somewhere.

Although he first gained attention for his work as a standup comedian as well as his work in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, these were not the start of his career in show business. During an interview, the actor revealed that during his first acting gig, he was horribly let down.

John Leguizamo’s Wanted to Romance Madonna

According to IMDb, John Leguizamo’s first acting credit was for the iconic singer, Madonna. The actor was a part of her 1984 music video for Borderline. During an interview with The AV Club, Leguizamo was asked about this credit, and the story behind it is quite interesting. He revealed that he was very interested in pursuing the singer after he found out about her type of partner.

He wanted to figure out a way that she could get to him and they could have an introduction. Leguizamo was hoping that working on her music video would help them meet each other, form a bond, and eventually have something more.

Yeah! I had heard that Madonna was into Latin guys, and I thought, “Yo, instead of her trying to find me, maybe if I’m there…. I’ll help her find me.” ’Cause you know, she was the hottest pop star of the time.

With these intentions, he decided to join the cast of the music video, hoping that if they could not be involved, the actor could at least see her once.

John Leguizamo’s Expectations Were Too High

While John Leguizamo was hoping that he could make Madonna realize he was the love of her life during the shot of the video, something completely opposite happened. The actor revealed that when he was working on the video, he did not even get to meet the singer once.

Leguizamo may have been quite ambitious with his intentions when he joined the crew of Borderline, and the final product was not surprising, He further added that on top of not meeting the actress, he also got very little out of the music video.

And so, I did this video, but I didn’t get to meet her or nothing. I got a pat on the back and a sandwich. That’s all I got.

Leguizamo mentioned that all he got was a sandwich, and he was told that he did a good job. It is safe to say that the entire situation must have been quite odd for the actor.
