Tisha Campbell had to undergo a hard time after her divorce from Duane Martin. The duo split after 27 years of marriage, and it left Campbell broke with only $7 in her bank account as revealed by the My Wife and Kids star.
Campbell accused Martin of physical, emotional, and financial abuse as she claimed that Martin had hold of their finance. A year before their split, the duo filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy as their alleged debt skyrocketed to over $15 million.
Tisha Campbell Had Only $7 in Her Bank Account
Tisha Campbell has an astounding career to her name including Fox’s hit sitcom Martin. She also had prominent roles in Reginald Hudlin’s romance comedy House Party and Reginald Hudlin’s Boomerang. However, the actor faced the worst days of her life by the end of her marriage with Duane Martin and after their divorce, it left the actor broke.
“[I had] Nothing. No one knows that but I had nothing. Nothing in the bank. Nothing. I had maybe $7 to my name and I was scared. It was like I was starting all over,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
Fortunately for Campbell, her career was quite steady after her split. Her career was saved by different projects and kept her afloat. She was a prominent star of the ABC sitcom, Dr. Ken at the time. Later, the actor’s path to Hollywood further unfolded after hosting the annual Soul Train Awards.
Tisha Campbell Said She Had Support From Friends
As Campbell puts it, there was no rainbow after the rain, it was a storm in her life. However, her long-time best friend Tichina Arnold wouldn’t let her drown in sorrows. “I don’t know where I would be without my support system,” Campbell told Hip Hollywood.
“Tichina will have me pull it together at any moment like come on girl. B*tch let’s pull it together now, what? No, yep, you’re a winner what are we talking about? Here, what is going on get yourself together. B*tch, you know who you are let’s go yes she pulls you all the way up you know what I mean she’s like we don’t have time for this you know what I’m saying and we’ll give her last to make you okay.”
Despite the consistent support from Arnold and a few other closest friends, it was never easy for Campbell to be a single mother. Leaving her kids for work was, as the actor puts it, “not always the easiest thing in the world.” Also, it felt like a different world for the actor, “there’s sometimes there’s a little bit of guilt” but she had to do this “necessary evil or good” but not before making them understand why their mother had to go away sometimes.
