Henry Cavill is a big fan of the fantasy genre and video games and was already aware of The Witcher universe when he starred as Geralt of Rivia. However, he soon walked away which many claimed was because of the show not been faithful to the original source material.

And now The Witcher creator’s recent comments about the show only seem to have confirmed these rumors. Recently at the Vienna Comic Con, Andrzej Sapkowski while speaking to the Cerealkillerz was asked whether he had any suggestions for the Netflix series when he visited them. The author remarked,

“Well the set was tremendous, it was so wow, everything. But no, maybe I gave them some ideas, but they never listen to me. They never listen to me, but it’s normal, ‘Who’s this? It’s the writer, it’s nobody.'”

Even earlier this when the author was asked how he felt about the show at the Taipei International Book Exhibition in Taiwan, he had commented (via CBR),

“I’ve seen better. I’ve seen worse.”

His comments have angered many fans of the franchise, who took no time to start bashing Netflix online.

While it is not the first time that on-screen adaptions have walked away from the original source material, it remains just as shocking as the first time seeing the immense hatred some of these projects receive from the fans. Similarly, with The Witcher series, the faithful fans of the franchise were deeply distressed when the show decided to present its own take on the mythos instead of staying true to the novels like fans wanted.

Many even declared it unwatchable after Cavill’s exit for they alleged he was the only best part of the show. And now after Andrzej Sapkowski’s disclosure of Netflix’s ignoring his suggestions has further led fans to criticize the studio for being inconsiderate.
