Sydney Sweeney is one of the rising stars in Hollywood. Although she began acting at an early age with guest roles in TV shows like Pretty Little Liars and Grey’s Anatomy, she did not gain recognition until she starred in the 2018 comedy-drama TV series Everything Sucks! Fast forward to 2019, she had the world’s attention with her breakout role as Cassie Howard in the HBO series Euphoria.

Needless to say, Euphoria, the fourth most-watched show in the history of HBO, exposed the artists to greater opportunities in the industry. Sweeney is one of the breakout talents from this show. While she has starred in some great projects over the years, she decided to take the steering into her own hands for her most recent project, Immaculate. In a recent interview, she revealed the real reason why she chose to work as a producer on the movie.

To say that The White Lotus actress has been busy this year would probably be an understatement. In February, her movie Madame Web, set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, was released to negative reviews and bombed at the box office. However, this did nothing to dull Sweeney’s shine as she began promoting her next movie Immaculate soon after.

The actress stepped up her game with Immaculate as she served as a producer on the movie. Upon being asked why she chose to be a producer, when she could very well just focus on her acting, she told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast:

“I feel like I have to constantly prove myself.”

Sydney Sweeney explained the reason by saying that although she has appeared in some very incredible projects like Sharp Objects, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Euphoria, people doubt her ability to act. No better way of proving them wrong than doing what the actress is doing in her career.

Immaculate is Not The First Project in Which Sydney Sweeney Was Involved in Production

Sweeney’s romantic comedy Anyone but You, released in late December last year, not only saw her in the lead role but also as an executive producer. In addition to making contributions to the script, she helped in choosing Glen Powell as the male lead character and Will Gluck as the director (via Deadline). The movie turned out to be a sleeper hit.

The Nocturne actress had originally auditioned for Immaculate when she was a teenager, but the movie did not happen at the time (via The Hollywood Reporter). About a decade later, she contacted the scriptwriter of the movie Andrew Lobel, and asked if he would let her have it. Luckily, he agreed, and one thing led to another, resulting in the making of this psychological horror movie.

Immaculate is in cinemas now.
