Xolo Maridueña’s time in the DC Universe was tainted from the very beginning. Coming in at a time of superhero fatigue where no project was getting any attention, it was not surprising when Blue Beetle did not work out. However, no one expected just how badly the movie would end up failing. Being regarded as one of the worst-performing films in the history of the franchise, even though it was fundamentally praised, it is safe to say that the film had an unfortunate run.

Despite this, it seems that DC is not ready to give up on the character just yet, and neither is Maridueña. During a recent interview, the actor talked about an animated show for the character that is currently in the works and what fans can expect from it.
Xolo Maridueña Talks About a Blue Beetle Animated Series
Xolo Maridueña recently gave an interview with the Associated Press, where he talked about his future in the DC Universe. While many franchises could cut ties with an actor if their film bombed, this is not what DC did in the slightest.

Instead, the studio seems to have a brand new idea to save Blue Beetle’s character; an animated series. Animated shows are ingrained in the very fabric of the superhero genre. It was Batman: The Animated Series that was heavily responsible for the place the character has in pop culture now.
Getting to expand and maybe even do stuff that [we] wouldn’t be allowed to do in the movie or live-action is so appealing to me.
Blue Beetle seems to be going in a similar direction, using a much more freeing medium, according to Maridueña.
Xolo Maridueña Has Expectations
After talking about the fact that his DC character is getting his own animated series, Maridueña started to reveal what fans can expect from the series, as a whole. He started by revealing that when he was younger, he would devour shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and the X-Men animated shows.
I grew up watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, the old X-Men show, even some of the newer ones. The animated space, Studio Ghibli, it could be sick.

In the years since then, the animated space in Hollywood has changed drastically. The medium, as a whole, has become so much more expressive, and the creators can pretty much tell any story they want. Maridueña seemed to understand this fact very well and was even excited about what could be done with the show.
I’m really excited about it. I hope everyone comes back for it.
Knowing this, he mentioned how he really wished that fans would come back and see what the show had in store for them.
