If you are well-versed in the superhero world, there is a strong chance you are aware of the fact that Emily Blunt is a fan favorite when it comes to playing Sue Storm in MCU’s Fantastic Four. Her husband, John Krasinski is also the fans’ choice to play Sue Storm’s husband, Mr. Fantastic aka Reed Richards. However, with Emily Blunt on a hiatus, it seems like fans are in for heartbreak.

Appearing for an interview on iHeart’s Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi podcast, Emily Blunt opened up about taking a vacation from acting as she plans to spend more time with her family. She stated that she will not be working this year.

“This year, I’m not working. I worked quite a bit last year and my oldest baby is nine, so we’re in the last year of single digits. And I just feel [like] there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they’re little. And it’s, ‘Will you wake me up? Will you take me to school? Will you pick me up? Will you put me to bed?’ And I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones.”

With MCU’s Fantastic Four set for a May 02, 2025 release date, it goes without saying that Blunt might not be in the race, after all. MCU films require a long time for filming since they are far from simple. Thus, it seems like Blunt’s hiatus update is enough for fans to find their new favorite for the role. Previously, Blunt opened up about the rumors of her playing Sue Storm. She told ExtraTV,

“No one has approached me about the Invisible Woman, so we’ll leave it at that. I have not been approached about the Invisible Woman.”

Blunt also told The Telegraph that “it’s the worst thing ever” when a script demands for a “strong female lead,” adding that she’s bored and out. And as we all know, Sue Storm is, undoubtedly, a strong female lead.

With Blunt probably out of the picture, we need someone else to set our sights on, and that someone might be Vanessa Kirby from Mission: Impossible. Now, fans have very little to no information about Fantastic Four, one of MCU’s most anticipated projects. As expected, fans have come up with their own theories about everything from the plot to the casting. These speculations give rise to rumors and one such rumor talks about Kirby playing the Invisible Woman.

What does Kirby think about the rumors, though? Well, she is all for the idea. Talking to Variety on the red carpet for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Kirby stated,

“It would be an honor to play Sue Storm. She’s amazing, and it’d be a complete honor.”

Of course, these are simply speculations and no official confirmation has been given with regards to the casting of Fantastic Four. We will just have to wait it out.

Fantastic Four is set to release on May 02, 2025, and Blunt’s Oppenheimer comes out in a few days on July, 21.
