Zoe Saldaña’s Experience in Playing an Alien in Hollywood 

Zoe Saldaña is no stranger to playing an alien character in Hollywood, as she appeared in two infamous franchises to portray an alien. Initially being sought for James Cameron‘s Avatar (2009), Saldaña rocked the role of the blue-skinned Neytiri. Portraying a warrior from a different planet, the actress starred alongside Sam Worthington.

Further, Zoe Saldaña was sought to play the role of another alien in James Gunn‘s 2014 MCU film series Guardians of the Galaxy. Although she was aware of the coincidence that felt like a Hollywood typecast, Saldaña didn’t mind being known for the sci-fi features.

During her discussion with Pop Sugar, Zoe Saldaña claimed how she immediately had a concern surrounding her character as an alien in Guardians of the Galaxy. No sooner did she land the role, the actress claimed to be concerned about her character’s beautification.

Undergoing hours in a make-up chair to transform into Gamora, Zoe Saldaña had initial concerns surrounding her character’s appearance. The actress recalled during her interview, how she was hellbent on transforming into an attractive alien. Desperate to get approval from young boys, Saldaña wanted Gamora to look attractive.

What I was thinking was, ‘She just needs to be pretty.’ That’s usually a thing that I don’t think about with other characters, but because I was going to be green and I was going to be the lead girl, I just wanted teenage boys to find me attractive. I don’t know why I was stressing that a lot…I’m like, ‘Pretty.’ Teenage boys, please, we gotta get their vote.”

And certainly, her character did win some votes from her young audiences, which led the movies to turn into blockbusters.
