J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books have been loved over the years and Potterheads continue to celebrate the legacy of the franchise. Similarly, the films starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint have been faithful to the books and remain a cult film series. The relationship between Harry, Hermione, and Ron throughout the narrative has been praised except for one controversial arc.

Watson’s Hermione and Grint’s Ron romantically end up together in both the films and books, a choice that has frustrated most fans of the franchise. who believed that Harry was the better and more suitable choice for Hermione. Rowling admitted to this mistake and revealed in 2014 that she made that controversial decision out of her personal choice and reasons at the time of writing.  She said, (via The Hollywood Reporter)

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment,” she says, as excerpted by the U.K.’s Sunday Times. “That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

I know, I’m sorry. I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

The question of who Hermione fits better with is all a matter of perspective. However, most fans agree that Hermione ending up with Harry makes the most sense and credibility. Rowling is finally understanding this it is great that she admitted to what she did wrong.

The Chairperson of Warner Bros. Television, Channing Dungey talked to Variety about the casting process and how it will be extremely hard to live up to the legacy of what Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint achieved with their iconic roles. Dungey further revealed that the tricky part of the process is finding the right kids to play the younger versions of the characters. He said,

“We’re in conversations with a number of different writers to figure out who’s going to be the person to lead that franchise for us. The first step for us is figuring out who this showrunner is going to be and once we get that locked down, then we can start having those [casting] conversations. The tricky part is the first two books, where the kids are on the younger end, around 11 or 12.”
