Tom Cruise’s Message to his Co-Stars

During the 34th Producers Guild Awards, the committee decided to honor Tom Cruise by giving him the David O. Selznick Award, an award that acknowledges and praises the individual’s immense contribution and dedication to motion pictures. 

The Top Gun: Maverick actor was praised by numerous speakers for boosting the movie industry after it was plagued by the pandemic in 2020. Sherry Lansing, the former CEO of Paramount Pictures said in her introduction, “Tom Cruise showed all of us that moviegoing was back.”

As the actor went on the stage to accept his award, Sherry Lansing presented the award to Cruise, defining him as “someone who I love, someone who I respect, and someone who I am in total awe of.” He was indebted to his mentors in the industry like Sherry Lansing, Steven Spielberg, and Jerry Bruckheimer; he also acknowledged the work of the TV and film producers in the audience and ensured that he will be contributing more in the coming years.

“You’ve all enabled me the adventurous life that I’ve wanted. I’ve been able to travel the world and work and watch films in so many countries to share in their cultures and realize how much we all have in common, and to admire our differences.”

“I like to see people do well. I know that things don’t just happen. I know it’s not just luck. You have to create that luck. You have to will it into existence. I want you to know that I’m always rooting for you. I’m rooting for all of you.”

“The better every studio does, the better every film does, the better we all do and the better it is for everyone. So, I look forward to seeing what you create in the future, and I’ll continue to do all I can to contribute and help this industry and this art form that I love.”

The award is not just out of respect and popularity, but it is a tangible depiction of what years of dedication look like, as well as putting his life on the line despite having the option of having stunt doubles to do his stunts, Cruise is the most charismatic and reputed action stars of this generation.
