Adam Driver rose to fame for his iconic portrayal of the Star Wars villain Kylo Ren, but one thing that also stood out for many fans is the way he looks. The actor has received mixed reactions about his appearance; some adored his unique face, while others criticized him for being an unconventional heartthrob.
Now, the Logan Lucky star is earning praise on social media after he shut down an interviewer for commenting on his looks. It was not the first time Driver heard such nasty opinions, but surely, he was already fed up with these shallow remarks.
Adam Driver Savagely Responded To A Host Criticizing His Appearance
During Adam Driver’s conversation with Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, the host told him, “You don’t look like the typical movie star,” then proceeded to ask if his physical appearance ever became a “hindrance” to his acting career. The actor promptly replied:
“I’ve worked consistently, which is nice, with people that I’ve wanted to always, dreamed that I wanted to work with. So, in that sense, it hasn’t — I look how I look, I can’t change that. So, I guess it helped me.”
Driver’s response drew high praise from the viewers, with many stating he handled it really well and, at the same time, shut down the insensitive remark from the host. He added as a joke:
“A hindrance in only breaking mirrors wherever I go and having a misshapen outsized body that I can’t fit through doorways, or most clothes or fit into most cars. Apart from that, it’s good.”
Wallace was still not satisfied and continued to force the topic by bringing out a photo of Robert Redford, asking Driver if his life would have been different had he looked like the Indecent Proposal star. He responded:
“Maybe I’m trying to be diplomatic. And I guess if I was alone in a room, I’m like, who doesn’t want to look like Robert Redford? I’ve accepted this is how I look.”
The host received so much flak on the internet for his tactless comments on Driver’s appearance. So far, Wallace’s team has not yet given any statement regarding the issue.
Adam Driver Claims A News Outlet Called Him “Horse Face”
In the same interview with Chris Wallace, Adam Driver revealed a news outlet tried to insult him, but he knew better not to dwell on these kinds of slurs. In fact, he tries not to believe everything he hears about himself:
“The New Yorker also called me a ‘horse face’ so I don’t — I take it with a grain of salt. I remember reading one reviewer [who wrote]: ‘His agent probably doesn’t know whether to put him in a movie or the Kentucky Derby.’ So, I take it, you know, if you believe the good thing, then you have to believe the bad thing. So, I try to not absorb anything.”
Prior to Wallace addressing the actor’s looks, the host brought up the topic that many people from the press compared Driver to the likes of Al Pacino and Jack Nicholson. Driver was very flattered, though he admits he tries to shrug off both compliments and criticism about his career:
“Those are the actors that made me want to be an actor, you know, so that’s a nice comparison.”
Despite fans throwing negative words about the Marriage Story actor’s appearance, no one can deny that he is a really talented star, with nominations for two Academy Awards, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Awards, among others.
