Natalie Portman has met many Hollywood icons but she was awestruck after meeting this particular star: Martin Short. The actress recalled fangirling over the actor when she met him at an award show recently. Short mainly gained popularity for his roles in sketch comedy. His appearances in many TV shows and movies have earned him several prestigious awards and nominations, including two Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Tony Award.

In the same award show, Portman also met Star Wars star Mark Hamill but meeting Short was definitely a much more exciting experience for her. The actress also named Father of the Bride (1991) as Short’s best movie, adding that Short was best in everything he did. Short is also known for his work as Oliver Putnam in the TV series Only Murders in the Building.

During her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, actress Natalie Portman recalled meeting actor Martin Short at the Golden Globes. Kimmel asked her to name someone whom she met recently that she had never met before and was excited to meet and Portman immediately replied,

“At the Globes… I met Martin Short, I lost my mind. My friend Jess and I were like – stalking up behind him like, ‘Mr. short! Mr. Short!’ and it was so exciting.”

Further in the interview, Portman revealed that Short’s Father of the Bride (1991) was very important for her whole growing up. Short gained popularity for his work in many comedies such as Three Amigos (1986), Innerspace (1987), Three Fugitives (1989), Captain Ron (1992), Clifford (1994), Mars Attacks! (1996), Jungle 2 Jungle (1997), and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006).

At the 81st Golden Globe Awards, Portman also met Star Wars actor Mark Hamill for the first time. The actress explained that she had met Carrie Fischer but she never got the opportunity to meet Hamill,

“I met Mark Hamill for the first time and he called me his mother. I was like, Ah! – the coolest thing.”

Meeting Hamill was certainly exciting for her but Martin Short surely took her breath away. Portman was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical for her work as Elizabeth in May December (2023), for which she also served as a producer.
