Chris Evans appeared on The View to discuss his upcoming holiday movie with Dwayne Johnson. Following his Avengers movies, Evans has starred in a number of films directly released on OTT platforms, including his most recent film, Pain Hustlers. When asked about his next direct-to-home release, Evans explained why he had to pass on other opportunities to star in Red One.

Evans, who recently tied the knot with Alba Baptista, shared that he immediately took on the role, preferring it over two other films. One of his rejected films was a space film, which could have been a huge project for the actor. However, the Knives Out actor revealed that he is taking a break from such intense roles for the time being. Evans looks forward to acting in this Christmas film, as he shared with The View:

“They just don’t come around very often. That’s kind of why I had to jump at it. Last year… there were two opportunities, one was a movie about space and one was Red One. I love space, but like I said, I’ve been doing this a while, and Christmas movies just don’t happen enough. I had to jump at it.”

In somewhat disappointing news for Marvel fans, Evans also mentioned that he currently has no plans to return to the MCU, despite the news that Marvel was discussing the possibility of bringing back the original Avengers team. However, the Fantastic Four actor also added that he misses the time spent donning the Cap suit.

Apart from Johnson and Evans, J.K. Simmons has also joined the cast as Santa Claus in the film. While no details beyond the cast have been officially revealed for the Christmas release, the producer of the film, Hiram Garcia, teased an edge-of-the-seat Christmas adventure film. According to Garcia’s interview with Deadline, the film promises to add a twist to holiday mythology. Garcia told Deadline:

“Red One is incredibly special to me and a story I’ve wanted to tell for years. An epic, edge-of-your-seat, action-adventure that takes beloved holiday mythology and turns it on its head. I’m thrilled to have our Seven Bucks team join forces with Amazon to bring this fun Holiday tale to life for a global audience.”

Dwayne Johnson has also provided some hints about what to expect from the film. On his Instagram page, Johnson wrote, “Think Jumanji meets Miracle on 34th Street meets Hobbs & Shaw with a dash of Harry Potter and sprinkled on top with my all-time favorite Christmas movie, It’s A Wonderful Life”. The film is set to hit theaters this Christmas, although a specific release date is yet to be announced.
