The two actors who also have experience working in theater, sat down for a chat organized by Variety where they interviewed each other about various aspects of their film careers. In the course of the conversation, Zegler brought up Garfield’s gig as Spider-Man and praised the films and his performance wholeheartedly.

Speaking of why Garfield’s version of the superhero appealed to her so deeply that it made her cry, she confessed,

“I have to say, as someone who’s just such a fan of your Peter Parker — directed by Marc Webb so beautifully — I love those movies and I love the dynamic between Peter and Gwen so much. What Is The Future Of Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3?

Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man series was a more emotional and serious film series that delved into the deeper aspects of Spider-Man’s past. While Garfield’s performance was praised in both films, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 unfortunately did not set the box office alight when compared to its predecessor.

The lukewarm critical and audience responses seem to have arrested the possibility of a 3rd film which was very much on the cards at the time. Based on Garfield’s assessment of the first two films, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 could have had the potential to carry the story forward in a cohesive and coherent manner.

In December 2023, in an in-depth interview with Film4, the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 sat down to discuss the film. Garfield pointed out the beauty of the narrative that allowed a seamless continuation of the character’s story from the first to the second film.

”It was really exciting to get back to it because we had a foundation that was really solid. Each step led to the next. It’s simple filmmaking 101 of course. We were lucky in this respect.”

If Garfield’s words are any indication, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 would have continued Peter Parker aka Spider-Man’s narrative smoothly in this manner. Unfortunately, it has been a decade and this dream is still to be realized.

Spider-Man: No Way Home can be rented on Apple TV.
