Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-Man has become one of the most iconic versions of the character. Although these opinions are held by the majority, when the film was originally coming out, a lot of people had a lot of things to say. This is not surprising as the films had to follow up the ridiculously high standards set by Tobey Maguire’s films. Such a strong love for the Sam Raimi films made many publicly voice their opinions on the casting of the web-slinger.

Before Gafield was announced in the role, there were many who though someone else would be better suited for the role. Someone who not only ended up making his way into the MCU as a different character, but also inspired the creation of a new one in the comics; Miles Morales.

Donald Glover Was Able To Do Something Greater Than Act

There is absolutely no doubt that Andrew Garfield did an excellent job as Spider-Man. However, it is important to also note that Glover could have been just as good in the role. Many of his fans agreed and it would seem that Brian Michael Bendi, the creator of the hit series, Ultimate Spider-Man, was one of them.

Although Miles Morales’ name has become just as well-known as Peter Parker’s, the character isn’t nearly as old as him. Having made his first appearance in 2011, Bendi revealed to USA Today that a huge inspiration for his character was Glover and the role he played in Community.

“I saw him in the costume and thought, ‘I would like to read that book,‘” Said Bendi

Unfortunately, the actor has not gotten an opportunity to portray Miles. However, he has played his uncle, Aaron Davis in two separate films. First appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and then again in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, there is no denying how iconic Glover is.
