Actors make it look easy to pull off a kissing scene on screen, but it seems that Will Smith found it a bit challenging to share an intimate moment with co-star Eva Mendes in the 2005 movie Hitch.

Smith plays Alex ‘Hitch’ Hitchens, a dating consultant who is knowledgeable in all areas of love. He usually helps people find answers when it comes to questions about romance, a matter he could not handle after meeting Mendes’ character, Sara Melas.

Will Smith Wouldn’t Kiss Eva Mendes Because Of Her Tuna-Smelling Breath

In an interview in The Oprah Winfrey Show, co-stars Will Smith and Eva Mendes talked about their controversial kissing scene. The actress admitted feeling jittery on set; to calm her nerves, she ate a tuna fish sandwich with extra onions and a bag of Doritos, a combo she calls her ‘stank breath special.’

Smith reportedly hated the smell, so Mendes had to take some Altoids mints to remove the odor. They eventually finished the scene. When Mendes asked Smith about the experience, the actor responded: “It was absolutely wonderful.”

Meanwhile, it has been eighteen years since Hitch debuted in theaters. Mendes expressed interest in working on a sequel via her interview with Entertainment Tonight:

You know what? It’s time for a Hitch 2. Will, let’s do this. Hitch 2. It’d be fun because it’d be now in the world of all these dating apps. What would Hitch do? He’d be out of a job.”

The 49-year-old star has not appeared on screen since her Lost River project in 2014. She shifted her focus to her two daughters with Ryan Gosling. Now that she is a mother, she has become selective of the offers she accepts.

Acting is something that I will always love. It’s just like now that I have children, I’m kind of extreme. There’s just so many things I won’t do. Like I won’t do most of the movies I’ve done in the past.”

She specifically mentioned what movies she would avoid and which ones she would like to work on:

I don’t want to do anything too violent. Of course, I don’t want to do anything too sexual or sexual at all. So, I’m basically like, ‘Disney, I’m all yours, Disney.’ That’s all that’s left.”

Will Smith did not respond to Mendes’ enthusiasm over the Hitch sequel, although he has worked on several movie projects over the past years, such as Bad Boys for Life (2020), King Richard (2021), and Emancipation (2022).

Although Eva Mendes isn’t closing her doors when it comes to acting, it was clear that it isn’t her priority at the moment. She told ET that her focus is on following her passion and not setting an “overall goal of having an empire.”

My ambition shifts from this to that at different times and I think part of the message that I like to get across is that you don’t have to want to have everything. You don’t have to want to be this, like, super mom, super mogul. I’m not and I’m really happy this way.”

The mom-of-two and entrepreneur is happy and contented running her business, which includes a clothing collection that she partnered up with New York & Company.
