Following the revelation that James Gunn & Peter Safran would be leading the DCEU in a completely new direction, a certain fan base persevered until the very end and held onto a glimmer of hope for a franchise that had already vanished. Yeah, we are referring to the DC fans who have taken to social media to unite behind the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. And it was all due to Warner Studios’ extreme mishandling of Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie, which led to its total destruction.

For the unversed, the term ‘SnyderVerse’ describes the interconnected film universe that Zack Snyder created, starting with Man of Steel and extending to Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. An interconnected DC Universe has supplanted the aforementioned plans under the new direction of Gunn and Safran, encompassing film, television, animation, and video games.

But a recent report signals WB’s potential reconciliation with Snyder by collaborating on a 300 TV series. This optimistic horizon emerges as exciting news for die-hard fans and casual spectators alike, especially considering the lingering unrest following Snyder’s absence from Justice League’s final cut.

Zack Snyder’s 300: Warner Bros. Announces TV Series in Early Development?

Zack Snyder, 58, appears to be preparing to team up with Warner Bros. again for the 300 prequel series. For fans who have been disheartened with the direction of the DC Extended Universe and the treatment of Snyder’s vision, this news may come as a glimmer of hope.

We learned from Variety that the TV show 300 would be a prequel to the 2006 flick of the same title, providing a new perspective on the violent and strikingly beautiful world that the Justice League director had created. With mixed to positive reviews and a global box office gross of over $456 million (Box Office Mojo), the film not only established Snyder as a successful director but also gave rise to a 2014 sequel, Rise of an Empire.

The project is still in its early phases of development; Snyder is currently in talks to serve as both the show’s director and executive producer.

Despite a great start to their relationship with the 2006 film Watchmen and the early DC Extended Universe installments, Snyder and WB’s collaboration came to an end with his departure from Justice League, citing creative differences and a familial tragedy.

He would later work with WB on Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a reimagining of the DCEU crossover with a lot more footage—though even that was tainted by studio interference.

How Zack Snyder’s Vision Diverged from WB’s Expectations

Last year, Zack Snyder elucidated his philosophy regarding the characters within the Snyderverse and provided a rationale for his unsuitability as the person to lead the cinematic universe. In an attempt to create a broad franchise centered around DC Comics’ extensive library of characters, Warner Bros. launched the DC Extended Universe in 2013.

300 TV show would represent a number of significant turning points in Snyder’s career, including his first significant comeback to WB since Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

But a number of roadblocks kept Snyder’s franchise from reaching its potential, which is why the DCEU ended early, and the DCU will soon undergo a major makeover. With James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, DC is taking a new turn, and Zack Snyder is concentrating on his own projects outside of comic book adaptations, such as his sci-fi epic Rebel Moon.

In a 2023 interview with THR, Snyder reflected on his approach to creating a live-action DC Comics Universe adaptation, saying:

I never looked at it as the job, ’Oh, I’m the architect of DC. I need to create entertainment for DC that sells toys and that is for the masses and fun for everyone. I didn’t care [about that]. I liked Batman, I liked Superman, I wanted to make something cool. You picked the wrong guy if you wanted a product.

The DCEU’s demise was brought by critical and commercial setbacks. Audiences were split on Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the chaotic production of Justice League left the Snyderverse hanging by a thread. But Warner Bros. seems to be realizing the potential in working with Snyder once again, and this 300 TV series could be just the beginning of a new chapter of their relationship!
