Will Andy Serkis’ Character Return In Andor Season Two

During an interview with Collider, the actor addressed fan speculation that Kino might appear in the series’s second season, which will showcase a four-year period of Cassian’s life. Serkis said,

“Well, put it this way, Tony Gilroy said to me: ‘He’s still alive!’ That’s what he said to me. So, that seems to me like there’s some sort of… there’s a possibility that he might be alive.”

“I seriously hope that is going to manifest because I really do love the character, and I love playing the character so much. He’s so complex and flawed and human and brave,” he said. “I really love the arc of the character, and I think there’s definitely — I’m just imagining him sitting at Narkina 5 at the moment, on his own, perfecting his backstroke.”

How Serkis Approached The Season’s Final Scene

Director Toby Haynes revealed how Andy Serkis had portrayed the scene where Kino realizes that he won’t be able to escape. Haynes had described Serkis’s approach to the scene, where his character expresses frustration and despair over his inability to swim with a mix of anger and intense emotion.

“The way that Andy played it, we were doing it where he’s sort of angry and it’s emotional that he’s saying: ‘I can’t swim! I can’t swim!”

However, as per the director’s recollection, Serkis surprised everyone by changing the scene’s tone and delivering the dialogue in a peaceful and accepting manner.

“But then he just suddenly played it in this serene way where he was smiling and he goes: ‘I’ve done all this and I can’t actually get out, I can’t swim. This is where we say goodbye.’ I thought that was absolutely inspired and [it] was great working with Andy… it was sort of thrilling.”

Andor’s first season is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
