Batman Beyond is one of the DC properties that is rife with live-action potential and would slot in perfectly in James Gunn’s new DCU. The original animated series introduced the character of Terry McGinnis, who took over the mantle of Batman as Bruce Wayne’s successor, with the latter serving as his mentor.
Actor Tyler Posey, best known for his work in MTV’s Teen Wolf, has expressed his desire to play the character in a live-action adaptation of Batman Beyond. Given Posey’s passion for the character and the overall vibe of Batman Beyond, the actor makes a strong case for being cast as Terry McGinnis. Former Teen Wolf Star Tyler Posey Reveals Batman Beyond Ambitions
Actor Tyler Posey is renowned for playing the role of Scott McCall, a teenager turned werewolf for six seasons of MTV’s Teen Wolf. Posey also reprised his role for a film continuation of the series. During a 2020 interview with Collider, Posey was asked about the one role he would like to play from some kind of source material.
“Yeah, I really wanna do Batman Beyond. There was a cartoon, years ago, called Batman Beyond, and I really wanna adapt that into a TV show. I wanna do that so bad. I think it would be a really cool spin on a younger Batman.”
Posey made the above statement throwing his hat in the ring to play the Terry McGinnis iteration of Batman in a live-action adaptation of the hit 90s animated series. Similarly in 2018, Posey expressed a desire to play the role in live-action while revealing his admiration for the original Batman Beyond. However, Posey was also cautious that he might get too old before he got to pitch for the part.
Why James Gunn Needs to Cast Tyler Posey as Terry McGinnis in the DCU
Tyler Posey as Terry McGinnis would be a fantastic piece of casting for James Gunn‘s new DCU, should the franchise develop a Batman Beyond project. Posey has the boyish charm to play a character like Terry, while he is also adept at action and hand-to-hand fight scenes, as evidenced by his work in Teen Wolf.
At the same time, Terry McGinnis is primarily depicted as a teenager and Posey made a name for himself playing a teen character despite being in his 20s for most of Teen Wolf‘s run. As a result, it is safe to say that Posey could play the role for a long time. Meanwhile, he also has the experience of being a lead in a television show and Batman Beyond will be best explored as a series in the DCU.
Lastly, Teen Wolf stars are often ideal fits for live-action DC characters, especially on the television side of things. Posey’s former co-stars Colton Haynes and Tyler Hoechlin have had successful DC stints as Roy Harper / Arsenal in Arrow and Clark Kent / Superman in Superman & Lois respectively. Hence, Posey’s casting as Terry McGinnis could keep the tradition alive and Gunn must look at the former Teen Wolf star for a potential Batman Beyond project.
