Ever since the first introduction of the character of Spider-Man in the comics as well as the movies, fans have been crazy about the friendly neighborhood superhero, making every single one of his movies a big superhit. So after Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, when Sony announced that it would be recreating the movie by casting a new actor as the web-slinger instead, fans were nothing less than ecstatic, with a million choices to play their favorite character.

But besides others, Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien was one of the few names that had been constantly thrown around in the circulating rumors about Spider-man casting. In fact, so much so that he thought he might even dethrone Percy Jackson star Logan Lerman and even Tom Holland for the role!

Back when the castings for Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) were taking place, Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien was among the few highly favored by fans for the role. Addressing the rumors in an interview, he said,

“Professionally, I haven’t heard anything about it. I’ve only heard from, like, [rumors] online. It feels so weird to say,” he added with a laugh. “It’s so funny. My friends from New Jersey are calling me. They’re like, what are you not telling me, dude?! Spider-Man?!”

But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t interested in playing the teen web-slinger.

“It’s nothing but flattering. It’s never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven’t heard about it from a professional standpoint,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to play Peter Parker, obviously. I feel like any actor my age, that’s, like, a big thing. And my name being tossed with Logan Lerman’s is the coolest thing ever, too. I just think that kid is f–king fantastic. “

However, even though he didn’t even audition for the part, O’Brien would’ve definitely agreed to play had he been asked to.

“It makes me feel bad because I’m, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation. You can tell them that it’s not true.” He laughed. “It’s really just, you know, I guess I’ll see if I even hear about it? But thank you, internet, for giving me false hope!”

Regardless, Dylan O’Brien couldn’t make it to portray the character of Peter Parker because he was too busy at the time filming for Teen Wolf and wouldn’t have been able to manage both projects even if he had been selected.

Logan Lerman Too Was Listed As A Possible Candidate For Playing The Web Slinger

Though some might not know about this, before Tom Holland was finalized for playing Sony’s teenage high-school Spider-man, there was another name being considered for the role. And fans will be surprised to know that it was none other than the renowned Percy Jackson portrayer, Logan Lerman.

Since this came from a reliable source who had true knowledge about the studio’s plans, several fans were rooting for Lerman considering how perfectly he’d fit in with the high school-going Peter Parker’s role. However, as later learned, the now 31-year-old had ‘no interest in playing a superhero’, also the reason why he never auditioned for it.

Nonetheless, Tom Holland ended up bagging the teenage web-slinger’s role. And that just might’ve been one of the best decisions the MCU has made to date, judging from his on-point acting and innocence fitting right in with that of his character that helped the franchise even spawn three sequels to his initial movie, with Spider-Man 4 in the making.
