Following weeks of conspiracy theories surrounding her whereabouts, Princess of Wales Kate Middleton decided to acknowledge the reason for her absence and her current health status in a 2-minute-long video. The 42-year-old Princess said in a video shared by the Palace,
“I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from my surgery. It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.”
The Princess further explained about the abdominal surgery she underwent in January and added that at the time it was thought that her condition was ‘non-cancerous’, noting that the surgery was successful. Kate Middleton revealed that after the operations when the test results came back, the medical professionals found cancer was indeed present.
“My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment. This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
She noted that it has taken them time to explain everything to their three kids, George, Charlotte, and Louis, in a way that is appropriate for them, assuring them that their mother is going to be okay. Middleton lastly added that the family needs time, space, and privacy to navigate through these tough times while she completes her treatment. Kate Middleton noted that she loves her work and is looking forward to being back after she recovers.

A statement was shared back in January on Instagram, where Kensington Palace noted that Kate Middleton’s planned abdominal surgery was successful and that, after returning home, she would continue her recovery. It was added that Middleton was unlikely to return for her duties until after Easter.
