Even Harry Potter creator J. K. Rowling herself called him “a magnificent actor and a wonderful man.” He had a really good relationship with all the little co-stars in the Harry Potter series but in the posthumous compilation of his diaries, Rickman was frustrated over some child co-stars’ performances.

In Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman, which was recently excerpted online by The Guardian, Alan Rickman wrote down his thoughts on Daniel Radcliffe‘s future in movies. He wrote [of the actor who was 14 during the production of the third Harry Potter entry]:

“He’s so concentrated now. Serious and focused — but with a sense of fun. I still don’t think he’s really an actor but he will undoubtedly direct/produce. And he has such quiet, dignified support from his parents. Nothing is pushed.”

Rickman predicted that even though Radcliffe is an actor, he will definitely go on to direct/ produce in the future. However, it has remained unseen till now; who knows if Radcliffe will take on that path. His frustration was not just limited to Radcliffe, he also jotted down his thoughts on Emma Watson’s accent work.

Alan Rickman Also Commented on Emma Watson’s Diction

During the filming of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in the summer of 2003, Rickman wrote that Emma Watson‘s diction was sometimes hard to understand. He continued writing (via The Guardian) after sarcastically describing a “fabulous start” of a day on the film’s set.

“[Director] Alfonso [Cuarón] was quietly ballistic with me. I love him too much to let it last too long so I wailed offset and we sorted it out. He’s under the usual HP pressure and even he starts rehearsing cameras before actors, and these kids need directing.”

Rickman added:

“They don’t know their lines and Emma’s diction is this side of Albania at times. Plus my so-called rehearsal is with a stand-in who is French.”

Although both the actors Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have not commented on this, besides this, they were on good terms with Rickman. The Close My Eyes star passed away from pancreatic cancer in January 2016 at 69.

To pay him tribute, Watson took to social media and wrote that she was very sad to hear about his death. The actress also noted that she feels “so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a special man and actor.”
