The actor recounted such details in his journal, which shared an insight into his personal and professional life and was published in 2022 under the title, Madly, Deeply: The Alan Rickman Diaries. Some of the notable entries from the late actor’s diary provide his observations of the Harry Potter star.

“He’s so concentrated now. Serious and focused – but with a sense of fun,” he noted about The Lost City star. But he still expressed his reservations about Daniel Radcliffe’s acting abilities, saying, “I still don’t think he’s really an actor.” Rickman, however, saw a future for the Imperium star in directing or producing.

He also mentions Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the franchise. He stated that the young actors need directing, noting their struggle with memorizing lines and Watson’s occasional unclear diction. “Emma [Watson]’s diction is this side of Albania at times,” he mentioned, as per The Guardian. Radcliffe later reflected on what Rickman had envisioned for him.

“I would love to direct,” he said answering a fan’s question about a potential shift toward directing and producing. In another interview with Variety, the actor expressed his desire to direct, stating that he’s adept with people and understands how various actors operate.
