Emily Blunt Shares The Moment She Got to Know About Her Oscar Nomination

Wasn’t it shocking to know that Emily Blunt had never earned any Oscar nomination before her role in Oppenheimer? Now she finally has one and also she is a strong contender to win the award as well. Compared to director Christopher Nolan’s other films’ female character, Kitty Oppenheimer, is more complex and well-developed and Blunt did her job perfectly.

Sharing the moment when she got to know about this on that morning, Blunt spoke to Josh Horowitz for a conversation at 92NY.

It’s all quite scary, the anticipation of it, and I think you just try not to listen to buzz because buzz can be built on sand sometimes. And so when it did happen, and when it happened in such a far-reaching way for all of us in the movie and every crew member, it was magical,” Blunt said about Oppenheimer’s 13 Oscar nominations. Telling about her own nominations, she continued:

I did have a brief cry in the middle of Brooklyn, a brief weep directly after picking up my dog’s poop.

John [Krasinski] had a really good cry as well…after helping me with the poop. I think he went and put it in the trash and then we both cried.”

Other actresses who are joining Blunt in the race to win the award are Danielle Brooks for The Color Purple, Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers, America Ferrera for Barbie, and Jodie Foster for Nyad. The winner will be unveiled on March 10 at the 96th Academy Awards.

What Was Emily Blunt’s Concerns When She Was Offered the Role in Oppenheimer?

Oppenheimer is ruling everywhere and expectations are high that the film will win the Best Picture category at the Oscars. Emily Blunt, who got her first Oscar nomination in Best Actress in a Supporting Role category played her role brilliantly. But, when she was offered the role, she was very concerned about one particular thing.

While she was excited to be a part of Nolan’s film, at the same time she was quite intimidated by the filmmaker’s complex storytelling approach. During a recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Emily reflected on the role:

He is the most understated person you’ve ever met,” she said of the director.

We just chatted about god knows what, and then he goes, ‘Right, so, you know, I’m gonna make this movie, Oppenheimer. Have you heard?’

I was worried I wouldn’t keep up with it,” she confessed. “His movies are so mind-bending and extraordinary, I was like, ‘Am I going to follow this?’”

She added, “I read it in his library, which already makes you feel stupid because [there are] so many books. Just endless books.”

She was nervous thinking about whether she would be able to grasp the complexity of the story. Because everyone knows how Nolan makes a film and how complicated his narratives are. But, eventually, she mastered the character and portrayed the character with ease.
