“I think it puts more pressure on us”: Zack Snyder Hit Back at Steven Spielberg’s Superhero Movie Comments While Dissing $519M Marvel Movie That Outshined His Own DC Movie

Zack Snyder is one of the most accomplished filmmakers and in addition to being a great director, he is also a renowned producer, screenwriter, and cinematographer. After making his feature film debut, Snyder went on to have great success with the blockbuster films like 300 and its sequel. His career really took off after he was hired into the DCEU to direct its films.

Zack Snyder did a fantastic job revitalizing the Man of Steel franchise when he joined the DCEU, and the film ended up becoming a pillar for the multibillion-dollar comic book franchise. In addition, many people admired his work on the DCEU, which helped the franchise. But Snyder and Steven Spielberg crossed words regarding the superhero genre and its future for the upcoming decade.

Zack Snyder Clapped Back at Steven Spielberg

Zack Snyder was all set to take the DCEU to be the best superhero franchise of all time, surpassing the MCU in terms of characters, fan base, and plot design. With movies like Man of Steel, Justice League, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the franchise was set to flourish under him, with more incoming movies and projects.

But due to his sudden exit from the franchise and an extended break from the industry, the franchise’s momentum faced a wall and slowly died down. Moreover, all his plans went down the drain as he was never reinstated into the franchise for leading its projects. However, before his exit, Snyder and Steven Spielberg clashed as the Jaws director claimed that the superhero genre would not last long.

“He might not be wrong. I think it puts more pressure on us, the filmmakers, to not just crank out superhero movies for the sake of it. To me, the one thing I love working in the DC universe is that Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman are American mythology.

It’s not about making a superhero, it’s a mythological universe that we live in. That I hope stands the test of time. They stood the test of time. That’s hopefully the sort of magic bullet. But who knows what audiences will want in the future.”

Zack Snyder Claims MCU’s Ant-Man as a “Flavor of the Week”

Ant-Man is a Marvel superhero brought onto the big screen in 2015, although the development of the project started almost a decade earlier, it had to be put on hold till the franchise had solid ground. The movie has very good reviews and decent critics as the franchise was just developing and introducing their characters for the finale in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The movie was a massive success as it made more than $519 million against a budget of $130 million.

Zack Snyder claimed that although he feels like his superhero franchise will be the best, their current strength was not on par with MCU, as DCEU’s at the time movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made $873 million against a budget of $250 million. Moreover, Snyder claimed that B v S did not turn out to be “the flavor of the week” like Ant-Man was. Ant-Man‘s profit margin was higher than B v S as the MCU movie had a 300% profit while the DCEU movie had 290% despite having 3 legacy characters, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
