Even though the struggling DCEU has come to an end, fans are still confused about the current state of the DC universe, as the last few movies did nothing to clarify fans’ doubts. This resulted in Studio head James Gunn coming forward to clear the air about what is canon and what is not.

With Creature Commandos set to kickstart Gunn’s DCU next year, the Guardians Director made some clarifications about the characters that are going to make the jump to the new DC universe. And to fans’ surprise, this doesn’t involve one of the biggest positives from the previous one.

No Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in DCU?

Responding to fans’ confusion about who is reprising their characters from the previous DCEU to the new one, James Gunn named three actors. These involve Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, John Cena as Peacemaker, and Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle. Although Gunn did clear the mist surrounding the DC drama, fans are now concerned about Margot Robbie‘s future in the DCU, as Gunn didn’t include her name in his comment.

However, this might’ve to do with the fact that there is no room for any Harley Quinn-related stuff in the initial years of the DCU, while Davis and Cena have their own shows in the works.

It’s Okay to Be Confused Said James Gunn

Even though things remain a bit puzzling for fans about the direction that DC is going to sail, James Gunn further clarified that nothing in DC is canon until Creature Commandos drops. The writer-director further expressed that it’s okay for fans to be confused as “no one has seen anything from the DCU yet”. Keeping in mind that the production of DCU’s first major project, Superman: Legacy is moving at a healthy pace, fans will soon get to experience a deeper dive into the new universe. He shared on Threads,

“Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year – a sort of aperitif to the DCU – & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think its okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.”
