The actress has become very picky with the projects she gets herself involved with. In the past, she admitted to be the receiving end of comments about her weight and her overall body frame.

Bryce Dallas Howard Revealed One Important Demand When Taking Movie Roles

During her interview with Time Magazine, actress Bryce Dallas Howard claimed she has retired from talking about her body in the sense that she did not want to be discussing how she would look in a film project. When she met with Argylle director Matthew Vaughn, she immediately stated her case:

I straight up said to Matthew, ‘I just want you to know that this is my body. And if you want my body to be smaller, I think you should hire someone else.’ And he said, ‘No, I’m hiring you because of you.’

Howard reflected on how many women in the entertainment industry were forced to shed or gain weight for roles, but most importantly, just for aesthetics. She once told in an interview that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow once defended her when the studio bosses aired their concern about her weight.

It’s very strange that that’s been something that’s been specifically policed, where people hiring actresses say, ‘We want you, but 20 pounds less you.’ What it means is the person who would be what is called straight-sized, or medium, is being forced for a period of time to become fatigued, which is not sustainable.”

The 43-year-old actress discovered that it was best to inform people right away from the beginning that she is open to work so long as they accept her for herself, however she looks.

What I found was best is to just be in communication with folks early in the hiring process. What I would say is that, ‘If you want to cast me, awesome. But if you think you want to cast me, but 20 pounds less me or 40 pounds less me, that’s actually another actor.’

The star also noted that studio bosses asking their lead stars to change themselves in an unhealthy way should not even become part of the conversation.

Howard is all about body positivity, and it comes with the reality of accepting it entirely, flaws and all. She once shared in an interview with Today:

Something doesn’t fit you, then it’s the clothes problem. It’s not your problem. You don’t change yourself for the clothes. Move on and live your life and enjoy your body.”

The actress likened the situation to statements one would tell their best friends. If they would not hurl awful words at their pals, they should also avoid saying negative remarks to themselves.

Argylle is available for rent via Prime Video and iTunes.
