After three seasons of playing the monster-hunting Witcher, Cavill decided to leave the series because of creative conflicts with the studio. The news of Liam Hemsworth taking over came shortly after his departure and it did not take long for the fans to begin speculating as to why the Man of Steel actor would leave a show whose game he adored so much.

He remembered being on set that day with his American Akita, Kal, who had managed to escape his trailer and rush to the scene. Sadly, he got his paw caught in a hole in the step of the trailer as he attempted to climb down the stairs, leading to a serious injury that caused the star to be severely shaken. He said at WitcherCon 2021:

“This day, Kal had run out of my trailer, And there [were] these metal stairs outside the trailer.” The stairs were apparently designed with holes in the steps to prevent rainfall from gathering on them, but instead of preventing a slipping hazard, they ended up injuring Kal. Kal got one of his claws stuck in it as he jumped off and all I heard him do is yelp, And I thought, ‘Oh, he’s landed badly on his shoulder or something.’ It turns out the injury was much worse as the poor creature had actually ripped his claw all the way off apart from a little bit.”

He looked closer and saw that the dog had ripped part of his claw off. Nevertheless, despite the concerns, Kal was okay after the injury.

He was there the entire time, he spent most of his time in the trailer rather than on set,” Cavill told People magazine.

“Because when he can see me, but he can’t get to me, he tends to start making a lot of noise. We didn’t want him running in halfway through a scene or a sword fight especially, because he would be taking people down. But he was always there.”

It’s almost a fact that dogs have always been loyal and always give out immense love to their beloved humans and so does Henry Cavill loves his Kal.

The Witcher, streaming on Netflix.
