The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard divorce saga was one of the most publicized and talked about events in Hollywood. Apart from the trial being aired for the world to see, Heard and Depp also became scapegoats for various memes that flooded social media. Most recently, the ex-couple had the dubious distinction of becoming Halloween costume choices for people.
Ex-UCLA gymnast Katelyn Ohashi faced the heat for her decision to appear as Amber Heard in Aquaman during Halloween, along with a friend who impersonated Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. After facing backlash for her post being insensitive, Ohashi took to her social media account to publicly apologize for her actions.
Katelyn Ohashi’s Apology To Amber Heard and Johnny Depp
Being in the limelight has its share of disadvantages, and Johnny Depp and Amber Heard experienced that firsthand through their highly public divorce trial. Apart from their relationship being analyzed from all corners, the two stars were also victims of a lot of memes, jokes, and trolling at their expense.
Recently, gymnast Katelyn Ohashi took to her social media account to impersonate Amber Heard as Mera in Aquaman for Halloween, while a friend dressed up as Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean. In a now-deleted X post, Ohashi was seen fake choking her friend with the caption,’ Rumor has it that Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are back together’.
Following her post, the former UCLA athlete received flak online for being tone-deaf to the situation, considering the complicated relationship that existed between the DC star and the Sleepy Hollow actor. In response to the backlash, Ohashi took down her post and backed it up with another statement, apologizing for her lack of judgment. In a post on X, she said,
“I am truly sorry for the decision I made with my halloween costume/post. It was insensitive and thoughtless. As someone who has experienced and spoken out against abuse, I understand how wrong it was and expect more of myself. I hope you can accept my apology. I will be better.”
Ohashi isn’t the only prominent figure to have been criticized for her actions during Halloween regarding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Schitts Creek star Emily Hampshire was another celebrity who was called up for the same reason, and like Ohashi, issued an apology.
Will Audiences See Less Of Amber Heard in Aquaman 2?
Amber Heard became a bonafide superstar with her role as Mera in DC’s Aquaman starring Jason Momoa. While she is set to reprise her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the actor has reportedly become collateral damage owing to a lot of complications that have happened in her personal life between the two films.
According to unconfirmed reports, Heard’s highly publicized divorce trial with Johnny Depp which was marked by a lot of hostility, has worked against her favor. DC and Warner Brothers have apparently taken a strong stand on the negative publicity surrounding The Rum Diary star which they felt, would affect Aquaman 2. As a result, Heard’s portions in the film are said to have been significantly edited, with the actor supposedly being ousted from some important action scenes as well.
In addition, her alleged uncomfortable equation with director James Wan and co-star Jason Momoa is said to have driven the wedge even further with regard to the importance of her character Mera, in the film. While all these are still unconfirmed speculations that have been floating around, the release of Aquaman 2 will ultimately prove behind doubt, if Amber Heard’s role has been compromised or not.
