In the recently concluded Full Circle event in California, Zack Snyder held screenings of all three of his DCEU movies. Benefitting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Autumn Snyder Tribute Fund, the three-day event’s main attraction however was the discussion panels held by the movies’ cast and crew after the screenings.

On such a discussion panel held after his movie Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice on the second day, he made a comment about the extremely polarizing reviews the movie received during its release in 2016. And, inevitably, said comment has left the internet extremely polarized yet again.

Zack Snyder claims people didn’t understand Batman vs Superman

Zack Snyder has been hailed as a visionary filmmaker for years now. And rightfully so, however, with people making movies way ahead of their time, comes the problem of people taking time to catch up to them.

For example, the original Blade Runner movie in 1982 was vehemently rejected by the audience and critics alike but went on to be hailed as a visionary masterpiece that impacted, “generations of filmmakers and visual storytellers,” later on as Harrison Ford claimed.

Zack Snyder feels that the case with Batman vs Superman, too, is quite the same. When asked about the movie’s many layers and how it requires the audience to dig a little deeper, he commented that he thinks that those particular details are what made the movie so polarizing.

As according to him, people often go to theaters for superhero movies thinking, “‘Oh, it’s the superhero romp, right? Let’s have fun with it.'” So the problem with Dawn of Justice to him was,

“We gave them this sort of hardcore deconstructivist, heavily layered, experiential modern mythological superhero movie that needs…that you really need to pay attention to. That was not cool [for them]. That’s not something anyone wanted to do. They were like, ‘What? No! That’s exhausting. How about, why do they fight at night?’ I hate that.”

And this comment obviously ended up creating a bigger polarization than before.

Fans troll Zack Snyder for his controversial comment

Well, people never like being told what to do, and they hate it all the more when others claim that they did not quite understand something. That they needed to pay even more attention than they did initially. As a result, people absolutely did not take kindly to Zack Snyder’s statement.

And in true Netizens’ fashion, they took to Twitter to express said dissatisfaction. Claiming that they understood it well enough, and still didn’t like it, stating that Snyder is blaming the audience for his failure to portray his characters better, they are on a roll.

However, even with extreme divide and criticism, Zack Snyder seems to be doing extremely well. Especially with Rebel Moon set to be released later this year, something his co-author of the movie claimed as the movie being Snyder’s vision fully realized, the fans are waiting with bated breath to witness for themselves what the intergalactic epic has in store for them.
