Andy Serkis has been known around the world for his iconic roles and his skills with motion capture. Becoming famous by portraying the role of Gollum/Smeagol in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings franchise, Serkis’ career only went up after the role.
Portraying different roles throughout the years (including joining the MCU), Andy Serkis now seems to miss his original role. Talking about the upcoming The Lord of the Rings movies, the actor revealed that he is very excited about what the future holds for J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth!
Andy Serkis Is Excited To Return To Middle-Earth
Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and people with a great choice of movies will agree that Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy was quite a remarkable masterpiece. With an unexpected journey through Middle-Earth, Jackson portrayed a fantasy world so vivid that the franchise went on to earn 17 Oscars!
In J.R.R. Tolkien’s big world, Andy Serkis gave the motion capture and voice for a small creature who was one of the owners of The Ring. Voicing the role of Smeagol/Gollum in Jackson’s movies, Andy Serkis found his big career breakthrough, and his career only shot upwards since then. Talking about the new and upcoming The Lord of the Rings films, Andy Serkis revealed to Collider that he is very excited to see what Middle-Earth stories are yet to unfold.
“There are so many other great Middle-earth stories. Having recently done audio book recordings of The Hobbit, and then The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and just recently The Silmarillion, I’m aware that there are such great further stories that can be told, and I wait with bated breath to see what they’re gonna come up with.”
Although there are a plethora of stories to tell, the announcement of further films came as a surprise to the world. David Zaslav, who is the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery made this announcement alongside Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy.
There Are More Middle-Earth Stories To Unfold!
Veteran director Peter Jackson already created the iconic trilogy telling the story of The Lord of the Rings. In 2012, the director picked up another project and depicted the tale of Bilbo Baggins and his adventures through The Hobbit franchise. In a statement, Warner Bros. Discovery’s co-chairpersons and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy revealed that they will create more Middle-Earth stories to explore (via Collider).
“But for all the scope and detail lovingly packed into the two trilogies, the vast, complex and dazzling universe dreamed up by J.R.R. Tolkien remains largely unexplored on film. The opportunity to invite fans deeper into the cinematic world of Middle-earth is an honor.”
No further details have been revealed regarding the project and no, they are not talking about Amazon’s The Rings of Power (that is what Andy Serkis thought too). With more stories to unravel and further adventures to explore, maybe this time, J.R.R. Tolkien’s fans might get to see the story of The Silmarillion on the big screens!
