In Hollywood, actors will try their level best to showcase maximum authenticity on screen. From dangerous fight scenes to rather awkward love scenes, celebrities have never shied away from bringing their A-game. However, sometimes these scenes might take a different turn altogether.
Finding herself in this frame was Viola Davis, who was filming a s*x scene in How to Get Away with Murder. While the scene started in a very sensual manner, Davis soon found herself slammed into a wall and sustained a major injury.
Viola Davis faced a serious back injury while filming a s*x scene with Billy Brown
The legal thriller drama is filled with some really passionate and raunchy scenes. However, steamy moments do occasionally have a rather painful aftereffect. Viola Davis had to learn this the hard way when she was caught up in a passionate moment with Billy Brown while filming How to Get Away with Murder.
While talking to Jimmy Kimmel (via News Week) in 2016, she admitted that the actors took the s*x sequence a bit too far. In the scene, Brown was asked by the scene director to throw Davis against the wall in a passionate way. Although the actress was willing to participate, she suffered a back injury during the sequence. Davis continued, saying:
We really went for it. I said, ‘Listen, I’m always playing a maid, I’m always gaining forty pounds for a role, I wanna be sexy, I’m pulling out all the stops!’ So, I went for it—and threw my back out.
The actress then further detailed how the injury actually took place and added:
The director said, ‘Slam her up against the wall, really go for it.’ He slams me up against the wall and six people are behind the wall holding it up … that thing is just shaking. It sounds sexy but it really wasn’t.
The actress further detailed that the injury slowed her down for a bit, but she had to get back on set given that she’s working under Shondaland. Moreover, she will be required to perform “all sorts of things with all sorts of people” (via SiriusXM).
In the same Jimmy Kimmel interview, the host jokingly asked her how she informed her husband Julius Tennon about the injury and added:
How do you explain to your husband, ‘My back’s killing me from all the s*x I had at work today?
To this, Viola Davis jokingly answered that she had to hide the injuries from her husband. Even though Davis’s injuries were quite serious, she wasn’t the first famous person to have an uncomfortable situation while filming a scene.
The paper cut injury that Margot Robbie sustained while filming The Wolf of Wall Street
After reportedly beating out Kristen Stewart and Jessica Biel for the role, the then 22-year-old Margot Robbie grabbed the role of Naomi Lapaglia in Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street. This not only launched her career but also presented her with a number of other opportunities. But the role was not a walk in the park for Robbie, who suffered minor injuries while performing a particular scene.
In one scene in the movie, Robbie and Leonardo DiCaprio had to have s*x atop a pile of fake money. While the scene looked nicely captured, the behind-the-scenes situation was quite painful for Robbie, who ensured several paper cuts from the fake money. She added (via The Daily Beast):
I got a million paper cuts on my back from all that money! It’s not as glamorous as it sounds. If anyone is ever planning on having s*x on top of a pile of cash: don’t.
She went on to say that actual money might feel a little softer. Fake money, however, felt like paper, and when she went to retrieve her robe after getting out of bed, people gasped and informed her that her back looked like she had been whipped a million times.
Her back was covered in red marks, and she was shocked by the number of cuts she had sustained from lying on the fake money.
