Christian Bale has starred in several action-crime movies throughout his filming career. One such movie includes American Psycho, one of his best horror-thriller movies to date. In the movie, he played the character of Patrick Bateman, who lives a double life as an investment banker cum serial killer.

Playing a tough guy on screen and playing a tough guy in real life has a major difference. Bale, however, wasn’t afraid to channel his inner tough guy to confront a mystery hater who threatened to kill him after the release of his iconic movie, American Psycho. Talking about the threat he got, Christian Bale said,

“I remember somebody warned me, must have been a friend of mine who was crazy early on the internet. He called me up and said ‘There’s some person and they know where you walk every day and you go down this back alley, and they say they’re going to jump on you and rip your cerebral cortex out of your head. So please don’t go down that alley’. So, of course, I was like, ‘I’m going down that alley, I wanna see what happens.’ Unfortunately, nothing happened. I kept walking up and down it going ‘Where are they?’ But nothing ever happened,”

It was quite brave of Christian Bale to channel his inner Patrick Bateman and walk down that same street even after being warned to tackle the mystery hater. Good thing that the threats were a mere prank, however, Bale ought to have been more careful, just in case.

The movie American Psycho, directed by Mary Harron, was based on the novel written by Bret Easton Ellis in 1991. It is an American black comedy thriller released in the 2000s that features Christian Bale as the villain protagonist of the book-based movie.

In the movie, Bale plays the role of a wealthy investment banker, Patrick Bateman, who lives in New York City. The fun part is that this character has an alternate psychopathic ego that he hides from everyone else, thus leading a double life as a serial killer.

While the iconic movie played a significant role in granting Christian Bale his much-needed stardom, it was also rather criticized for its source material, based on which the movie was created. Thus getting stuck in a web of controversies, the movie was later on considered to be a ‘box-office disappointment’ for its disputed storyline.

You can watch American Psycho on Hulu Plus.
