Deadpool 3 is fast approaching, and it will finally grant fans’ greatest wish – to see Deadpool and Wolverine share the screen. The clawed mutant notably died in 2017’s Logan, which somehow stirred people’s curiosity as to how Marvel Studios would bring Wolverine back.
Hugh Jackman was brought out of his retirement from playing Wolverine when he confirmed that he would star alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, this does not mean he has been resuscitated back to life – it’s just a movement in the timelines.
Deadpool 3 Will Honor Wolverine’s Death And Won’t Mess With Logan’s Ending
Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy assured fans in his interview with BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast that Wolverine’s legacy after 2017’s Logan will remain and his death will not be reversed.
“I have always said that I can’t wait for Deadpool 3 to come out because all I want to do is give interviews alongside Ryan where we talk about our reverence for the movie Logan. Logan is canon. We love Logan. That happened. I want the world to know, as the producer and director, all of us share a deep love and respect for Logan, every aspect of how it’s crafted, and all the events that take place.”
Hugh Jackman also explained to SiriusXM that Deadpool 3 will not mess up the events in Logan. In the film, the character met his end which served as the perfect conclusion to Wolverine’s long-enduring narrative in the X-Men franchise.
“It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the ‘Logan’ timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”
In fact, Logan takes place in 2029. His story in the upcoming Deadpool 3 film is a separate event from the ones that fans witnessed in the 2017 installment.
Apart from Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, the cast of Deadpool & Wolverine includes Owen Wilson, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Matthew Macfadyen, Brianna Hildebrand, Leslie Uggams, Jennifer Garner, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapičić, and Rob Delaney.
Ryan Reynolds Had A Hand In Bringing Hugh Jackman In Deadpool 3
Ryan Reynolds revealed via ET Canada that he persuaded Hugh Jackman to return as Wolverine and team up with Deadpool. The actor said that what convinced Jackman was his genius proposal of a new Wolverine that won’t overlap with his previous portrayal of the character.
“What we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”
Truly, Jackman expressed his enthusiasm over wearing the adamantium claws again. The actor felt more comfortable now in his own skin as well as Logan feeling at ease with everything that has happened in his life.
Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive in theaters this July 26, 2024.
