Pete Davidson is a well-known comedian who starred in his own semi-autobiographical series, Bupkis. The show was spectacular in its first season, but the comedian has called it quits ahead of the second season.
Davidson rose to fame due to his sketches on Saturday Night Live, where he was a regular for 8 years before he walked away from the show. He returned to the small screen with Bupkis, but the star felt that his time on the show was now over.
Why did Pete Davidson quit his semi-autobiographical show?
Pete Davidson was an instant hit on SNL, with his inherent ability to make the audience laugh. Even though he was surrounded by a sea of other talented comedians, Davidson held his own very well.
He walked away from the show in 2022, and in 2023, he teamed up with Peacock to star in the show, Bupkis. The plot of the series drew heavily from his own life, digging deep as his character tried to work through the issues that stemmed from fame. Moreover, Davidson showed off his immaculate acting chops, and he played off of actors like Joe Pesci and Edie Falco.
The first season became an instant hit with the audience, and just two months after it premiered, Peacock renewed it for a second season in June 2023. It currently holds a score of 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite the rave reviews and the accolades, Davidson felt it was the right time to step away from the series. He felt that this chapter of his life was over since he got to share his experiences, and he was ready for new challenges.
“I’ve always seen Bupkis as a window into my life, since it is so personal and about my struggles and family. After nearly a decade of my personal life being in the media I wanted a chance to tell my story my way. Of all the work I’ve ever done, Bupkis is by far what I’m most proud of,” he said (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Davidson’s popularity soared due to his SNL stint. He left a lasting impression in the hearts of viewers on both shows, courtesy of his endless talents.
Pete Davidson’s rise to fame has not been easy
The Suicide Squad star has not had the easiest journey to get to this point in his life. He was born on Staten Island to Amy and Scott Davidson, the latter tragically dying in service, during the September 11 attacks in 2001.
Despite a rough childhood, Davidson harbored a wish to perform stand-up comedy. In an interview, he recalled that his friend had dared him one night, and that was the push he needed.
The comedian started performing various gigs and ultimately found his big break on SNL when Bill Hader gave him a shot at the audition. He became the youngest cast member to join the show in 2014. He has been at the center of controversies since then.
He has starred in a number of shows and films since then, proving he is more than just a comedian. Pete Davidson’s journey is inspirational, and a testament to his dedication to doing the things he loves.
