Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have a complicated history in the long run of their marriage. Smith met Jada Pinkett on the set of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, however, he was married to Sheree Zampino at the time. Following his divorce from Zampino, the duo started seeing each other.
Being very honest about his feelings, and his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith openly confessed that he was really jealous of Pinkett Smith’s friendship with late rapper, Tupac Shakur in the early stages of his relationship.
Jada Pinkett Smith’s Relationship with Tupac Shakur Made Will Smith Feel Jealous
In his memoir, Will, the actor admitted that he wasn’t too pleased with Jada Pinkett and Tupac Shakur’s relationship even though there were no romantic feelings attached.
Will Smith said:
“Though they were never intimate, their love for each other is legendary — they defined ‘ride or die.’ In the beginning of our relationship, my mind was tortured by their connection. He was ‘PAC! and I was me. Pac was like Harry — he triggered the perception of myself as a coward. I hated that I wasn’t what he was in the world, and I suffered a raging jealousy: I wanted Jada to look at me like that.”
Tupac Shakur and Will Smith were unfortunately never able to form a strong bond as the actor noted:
“I was in a room with Tupac on multiple occasions, but I never spoke to him. The way Jada loved ‘Pac rendered me incapable of being friends with him. I was too immature.”
In an Instagram post caption, he wrote that his jealousy was so intense that it kept him from ever even speaking to the late rapper.
Will Smith Felt Validated When Jada Pinkett Smith Chose Him
The Gotham actress Jada Smith is best known for her acting career, marriage with Will Smith, and her Red Table Talk podcast. But what’s lesser known is her relationship with the late rapper Tupac Shakur.
The two shared a relationship and the experience of caring for each other until Shakur’s untimely death in 1996. And, the following year, the actress married Will Smith after dating him for 2 years. Recalling his time with Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith stated:
“When Jada and I committed to each other, and the demands of our relationship made her less available to ‘Pac, my immature mind took it as a twisted kind of victory.”
“Jada was the paragon, the pinnacle, the queen of queens. If she chose me over Tupac, there was no way I could be a coward. I have rarely felt validated.”
Jada Pinkett Smith has recently revealed that she and her husband Will Smith have been separated since 2016. She said they are still legally married but living separately.
The pair share two children together – Jaden Smith and Willow Smith. Also, Will Smith has a third child, Trey, from a previous relationship.
