Danish actor, Mads Mikkelsen is quite serious about his craft, honing it to great lengths which helped him to work on amazing projects. Winning audiences’ hearts in both TV and films, he has gained international acclaim thus establishing himself as a significant figure in both European and Hollywood cinema.

Despite his Hollywood stardom which is filled with career-defining roles, he talked about how fans often confused him with The Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen.
Mads Mikkelson Recalled a Fan Encounter Which Wasn’t for Him!

Mads Mikkelsen gained worldwide fame for playing Le Chiffre, the villain in Casino Royale (2006). But, the roles continued to expand leading him to gain a strong influence in Hollywood. However, it was still not enough for fans to not mistake him for Viggo Mortensen.
In an interview with GQ, he unraveled a fan encounter who thought that he was The Lord of the Rings actor. He shared,
Approaching the former, that man recalled, “Viggo, right?”
When the fan asks him to do an accent, he refuses before revealing his real identity. “Can you do a straight American accent?” Mikkelsen shared. “My name is Mads, Mads Mikkelsen.”
The whole experience ended up in an awkward silence after he tried to connect with him but the guy rejected his attempts. However, it is not the first time that he was mistaken for the Captain Fantastic star.
Mads Mikkelsen Often Gets Mistaken for Viggo Mortensen
In the same interview, he further recalled how several media publications got him confused about the latter. He recalled one such instance when photographers mistook him for the time when he was gaining fame.
“I was a little famous at that point, but not that they would necessarily recognize me.”
The event happened during one Toronto International Film Festival when he was surrounded by a swarm of photographers who thought the Doctor Strange actor was Mortensen.
“Viggo, Viggo!” they called out to him. Things only got complicated as the very next day, several media outlets ended up misidentifying him in their photos.
He even ran into the Falling actor at another festival but as he recalled, the latter did not believe him.
“And then we went in on the red carpet, me first and then him after. And they all shouted ‘Viggo’ at me. And he was right behind me! It was so f–king immaculate.”
While Mikkelsen was rising the stairs to stardom, Mortensen gained international acclaim for his role as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings series. Given that this role brought him global stardom, he refused to reprise his role in its prequel series, The Hobbit, unlike his cast members.
It was because the original books did not feature his character in The Hobbit series since there is a 60-year gap between both events. Respecting the original source, he naturally kept his character only for the series.
The franchise became an immense success among the audience with several factors contributing to its success like storytelling, iconic characters, and universal themes that left an indelible mark in cinema.
