A year has passed since Tom Cruise and Miles Teller went against a fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jet in a retired F-14 Tomcat and flew back to the aircraft carrier after almost losing the battle.
While it may be nothing too big for a formidable action star like Tom Cruise, Teller had a completely opposite experience on the sets of Top Gun: Maverick.
He was seen having a candid conversation last year with Seth Meyers on his talk show as he recalled how he felt flying in fighter jets.
Not to mention, he went through a life-threatening health scare that landed him in hospital right after he landed from a sortie.
Miles Teller Opened Up About Allergic Reaction To Fighter Jets
Being surrounded by fighter jets and other air force planes had Miles Teller experience deep health troubles that he was hesitant to share with Seth Meyers, at first.
As he joked about his Irish skin, he shared that he felt uncomfortable and was covered in rashes throughout his body.
“I started just itching like crazy, so I get out of the jet, and I’m covered in hives, like head to toe. Instantly, I go to the doctor to do a blood analysis, this, that. I have sensitive skin, truth be told, Irish/Scottish skin,” said the 36-year-old actor.
Getting a taste of what the actual fighter pilots go through, Miles Teller told Meyers, “This was actually kind of cool.”
Tom Cruise Was Curious After Miles Teller’s Health Scare
Filming for Top Gun: Maverick made the Whiplash actor realize that matching the legend Tom Cruise is no joke.
Behind his effortless stunts on-screen, Cruise has had a history of deep injuries. And that is why the health of his co-stars is always a priority for him.
“I go to the doctor, and my bloodwork comes back, and I have flame retardant pesticides, and jet fuel in my blood,” he disclosed. “So, I go to the set the next day, and Tom’s like, ‘So how did it go, Miles? What did they find?’ I was like, ‘Well, Tom, it turns out… I have jet fuel in my blood.’”
Cruise, as Teller recalled, said without skipping a beat –
“Yeah, I was born with it, kid!”
With his savage reply, Tom Cruise showed Miles Teller that it would take him years to catch up to him, and then some.
Miles Teller will be voicing Gilbert in the animated comedy The Ark and the Aardvark while also filming for Scott Derrickson’s action flick The Gorge. Both films are expected to come out in 2024.
