After her Oscar-nominated role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, actress Lily Gladstone is now starring in the true crime drama Under the Bridge. Based on Rebecca Godfrey’s book of the same name, the series follows the tragic real-life story of Reena Virk, a 14-year-old girl murdered by teenagers in Canada in 1997.
Joining Gladstone is the American Honey star Riley Keough, who is also serving as a producer for the show. In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the Scalped actress recalled how she and Keough formed a connection after engaging on social media.
Lily Gladstone Recalled Connecting With Her Under the Bridge Co-Star
At the Los Angeles premiere of Under the Bridge, Lily Gladstone recalled the beginning of her friendship with co-star Riley Keough. She shared that they found themselves orbiting the same circles in Hollywood in 2017 while promoting their films, Certain Women and American Honey.
“I was aware of her work,” she shared in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter. And she was pleasantly surprised when Keough began following her on social media. “I also was just very taken aback when she started following me on social media,” the 37-year-old actress said.
However, it was their shared interest and activism that truly solidified their bond. Gladstone, who is a strong advocate for the rights of Native Americans, shared how Keough’s active support for critical issues such as Savanna’s Act and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, further deepened their connection.
She said,
“When I would post about Savanna’s Act, about MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women) issues, about an action in Mount Rushmore by Lakota, the ones who have the ancestral rights to the Black Hills — she just started sharing a lot of these social posts that I was making.”
The First Cow actress also shared how their professional relationship extended beyond acting as Keough sought Gladstone’s recommendations for Indigenous crew members for her directorial project War Pony. The Mad Max actress also reflected on their shared bond.

Riley Keough also reflected on her and Lily Gladstone’s shared connection. She shared that they frequently connected on social media, where they often exchanged messages and responded to each other’s stories. “[We] just DM’d about random things or responded to each other’s stories,” she said.
Keough also shared her appreciation for the Oscar-nominated actress, claiming that she was the first person she thought of to star in Under the Bridge. “I was such a fan of hers,” she said before adding, “She was the first person who came to mind for this.”
Keough is taking on the role of Rebecca Godfrey in the show, who investigated and wrote a book on Reena Virk’s tragic death, while Gladstone takes on the role of Cam Bentland, a local police officer involved in solving the case.
The true crime drama recently premiered on Hulu and has received a range of reviews from critics, with some praising its storytelling and performances and others criticizing its treatment of weighty subjects and its overall execution.
