Henry Cavill is one of those Hollywood talents people cannot get enough of. Known for his dynamic and versatile filmography, the actor has repeatedly charmed movie-goers with his enigmatic depictions of various characters across a multitude of genres. Superhero, action, mystery, drama, or even fantasy — you name it. Therefore, his adaptability and dedication make him a highly sought-after individual.
Besides being exalted for the depth and nuance he brings to his endeavors, Cavill has also captivated his fans with a demeanor that is both enchanting and appreciable. His down-to-earth, grounded personality allows the audience to relate to him. The Batman v Superman alum is simply not afraid of getting brutally candid. This is best exemplified by an anecdote he shared with the world when he made an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers back in 2016.
Turns out, even someone as seemingly perfect and sensational as Henry Cavill can have his fair share of embarrassing, cringe-worthy moments.
Henry Cavill Was Locked Out Of His Hotel Room In A Drunken Haze
The tales that originate from a state of inebriation can encompass something as mild as having a fit of laughter or as horrific and shameful as anything mankind has ever experienced. The encounter that the acclaimed Hollywood star had seemed to be testifying to the latter. Making an appearance on Seth Meyers’ Late Night, Cavill recounted a drunken mishap that had happened to him. It involved the Enola Holmes alum getting himself locked out of his hotel room in a butt-naked state. The story gets much worse, though.
The actor ended up completely naked outside his hotel room, in the hallway. And he needed to desperately take a leak. The matter soon devolved when Henry Cavill was compelled to pee “off the top of the hotel.”
It all started when Cavill traveled to Los Angeles, momentarily after getting the part of Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, to have a meeting with director Zack Snyder and his new personal trainer. Later, to uphold the spirit of celebration, the Justice League star decided to have dinner and drinks with his agent. Owing to jetlag, the actor soon passed out. This is when the actual nightmare commenced.
Here’s how he detailed the comically humiliating incident:
“I passed out a bit jetlagged and I woke up to the sound of my door closing in my hotel room. Of course, I then realized that I was on the outside of my door— and I had no clothes on … I got out the right-hand side of the bed and just went straight for the first door I saw and woke up completely naked in the hallway. Being naked in the hallway is a pretty big problem, but I needed to pee, and I was desperately thinking, ‘Where am I going to pee?’”
The talent had, in his jetlagged and drunken state, wanted to go to the restroom. However, not being acquainted with the hotel layout proved detrimental. Cavill simply saw a door and took the opportunity. Alas, what greeted him on the other side was the hotel hallway, not the bathroom. What is hilarious though is that the desperation to pee seemed to occupy a larger portion of his thoughts than the apprehension over his naked predicament.
Even host Seth Meyers joked, “So naked was secondary for you at this point?”
The actor wholly affirmed, “At this stage, very secondary.” Henry Cavill was looking for a solution and he had to be quick on his feet. Thus began his quest of searching for a suitable place to urinate at.
Henry Cavill Had To Pee Off The Hotel Rooftop
There were several twists and turns encountered by the famed actor on his hunt for a loo. In his attempt to find an appropriate location, he came across a fire escape. He went up, hoping to finally find the paradise he yearned for. Instead, he discovered a tennis court that was completely gated off and non-traversable. “This was around 3:00 A.M,” Cavill recalled.
The Man of Steel star had to come up with a solution and it had to be quick. It was the middle of the night and he was unable to hold it in any longer. “I’ve got to pee. This is getting bad now,” is what he thought to himself at that moment. And this was when Henry Cavill came to a sensible conclusion.
His quick fix? Peeing off the hotel rooftop.
“I felt like a little boy again,” admitted the Mission: Impossible – Fallout alum.
The problem was far from being resolved, though. Henry Cavill still had to do something about his bareness. Following is what he stated:
“Then it dawned on me that I hadn’t quite solved the problem because I was locked outside my hotel room naked—and on the roof now. I then thought, ‘You know what? You’ve just got to suck it up, get downstairs, and ask for your key,’ I walked into the reception. I said to the receptionist, ‘This is really embarrassing. I locked myself out of my hotel room and can I have my key to get back in.’ And he says, ‘Yeah, of course. What room are you in?’ Doesn’t bat an eye! Doesn’t even look up.”
The hotel receptionist’s nonchalant response astounded the Hollywood talent, who was left to ponder, “How often does this happen at this hotel?” The realization of that ought to comfort Cavill, who had just gone through one of the most humiliating incidents of his life. Turns out, the actor barely managed to get some shut-eye that night. He was fairly certain that he would be “caught on camera” and lose the job (re: Man of Steel) as a result. Thankfully, nothing of such nature ever occurred and the actor now enjoys the fame that the Zack Snyder-helmed pursuit brought him.
The actor concluded his awkward anecdote by stating how he learned a valuable lesson. He stated, “I now put chairs up against the doors of every hotel I sleep in.”
Fans can merely sympathize with Cavill’s candid confession. At the end of the day, most people have experienced their share of embarrassing drunken experiences that have altered the course of their lives—in some way or the other.
