The newly released Marvel’s tell-all book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, has revealed some astonishing and shocking details. The book has an in-depth account of everything that went behind the scenes, from casting to actor’s physical transformation for their respective roles. One such detail revealed by the book includes Chris Pratt’s transformation for his role of Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.
The actor had a calorie disaster when he was asked to eat as much as Mark Wahlberg’s daily calorie intake and was told to drink one ounce of water for every pound he weighed.
Chris Pratt’s Calorie Inkate Nightmare For Marvel Transformation
Being a superhero is not just special effects and computer-generated imagery, but rather requires extreme physical transformation. One needs to be consistent with their workout and remain determined throughout the process, for prepping for a superhero role does not start and end with the gym.
When Chris Pratt was cast as Star Lord, he knew he had a long way to go before he could be Star Lord. The actor had the same trainer as Chris Hemsworth for Thor, Duffy Gaver, who put him to train the very next day. Apart from his time in the gym, the Parks and Recreation star was told to increase his calorie intake to over 4,000 each day by nutritionist Philip Goglia.
He even had to drink an ounce of wanted ‘for each pound the actor weighed‘ (via The Messenger). The subsequent result was that he spent a significant amount of his day in the toilet, as he stated in the book, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios
“I was peeing all day long. That part was a nightmare.”
It took the actor six months of rigorous training sessions and diet to finally be able to fit into the Superhero category.
Chris Pratt Was Determined To ‘Put The Work In’
Not all actors are as determined as Marvel stars, and MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios proves just how much of a mental and physical toll it takes on actors to prepare for their respective roles. From countless hours in the gym to countless hours on the makeup chair, nothing is easy. However, Chris Pratt was prepared to do whatever it took the day he was hired as Peter Quill.
His trainer, Duffy Gaver stated (via MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios),
“Chris was very prepared to put the work in.”
He revealed that he would use Pratt as an example for his other clients and that everyone would pay attention to the actor once he stepped into the gym.
“He’s dripping sweat, out of breath. He was just a guy who was killing himself in the gym.”
And the result was that after six months he was so sculpted that when his character in Parks and Recreation was asked to have a shirtless scene, the makers decided to drop the idea.
The Marvel franchise can be streamed on Disney+.
