In describing his part in the movie, Pattinson claimed that Matt Reeves tried to transform the comic book protagonist into a “70s noir detective story,” and he revealed that working on the movie eventually motivated him to move behind the camera and consider becoming a producer.

While talking with British GQ, the Twilight Heartthrob revealed how his mental health got affected while shooting for his superhero movie The Batman. The actor explained how shooting in the dark made him feel very alone at times. Pattinson told GQ,

“And the nature of the shoot was so kind of insular, always shooting at night, just really dark all the time, and I felt very much alone. Even just being in the suit all the time. You’re not really allowed out of the studio with the suit on, so I barely knew what was going on at all outside.”

He added,

“I mean, I was really, really, really dead afterward. I just looked at a photo of myself from April and I looked green.”

The actor later acknowledged that he was thankful he was always able to return to the part despite the disturbance given that The Batman’s production was often interrupted and delayed as a result of the COVID pandemic.

After finishing The Batman, Robert Pattinson made the bold choice to become a producer, signing a contract with Warner Bros. Although being a “terrible writer,” the Tenet actor admitted that he finds “molding stuff really, really satisfying.”

He continued by comparing the excitement of pitching shows to acting:

“I seem to only be able to have ideas when there’s an enormous amount of adrenalin. It’s almost like my process of doing anything now. I have to really, really feel like I’ve hit rock bottom. Where right up until the moment I have to perform it’s: Wow, I’m the most empty piece of s**t”

He added,

“You have to feel the pain. And then suddenly it’s like God gives you a little treat: Here’s an idea you’ve never thought of before. Run with this”

The Batman, the most recent remake of the famed DC Comics character, has a 175-minute duration and stars Zoe Kravitz as the iconic Catwoman, who was previously portrayed in the films by Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway.

The film also stars Paul Dano as Edward Nashton, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the crime lord Oswald Cobblepot.
