Charlize Theron’s portrayal of Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road is undeniably iconic. Theron famously shaved her head for the role, a bold move that visually emphasized Furiosa’s strength and determination. On X (formerly Twitter), Theron shared footage of herself shaving her head to get into character as Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road.
The South African actress, while playing the fearless heroine in the film, later recommended that look for those who want to take on the role. And thus, Anya Taylor-Joy, the lead of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, too wanted to shave her head for the role. But that did not happen, which was disappointing to her.
Anya Taylor-Joy Was So Excited to Shave Her Head for the Mad Max Prequel
While opening about playing the character and shaving her head like Mad Max: Fury Road star Charlize Theron, Anya Taylor-Joy said that she was very much excited to go bald.
Speaking with Empire Magazine, the Golden Globe winner said:
“I felt so fiercely protective over Furiosa, and fiercely protective of her interests,” Taylor-Joy said.
“I was so excited to shave my head. Then George saw me in real life, and went, ‘No, we can’t!’”
Mad Max: Fury Road prequel’s costume designer Jenny Beavan told Variety about how badly Taylor-Joy wanted to shave her head.
“She wants to, but [director George Miller] doesn’t want her to,” said Beavan. “So I don’t know whether she will or not.“
The Northman actress, while talking about playing the role, shared that she fell in love with Furiosa, and the way that Theron portrayed her. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga centers on Charlize Theron’s character as a younger woman. It is once again George Miller, who is helming the film, just as he did with Mad Max: Fury Road and the original series of films as well.

Anya Taylor-Joy’s upcoming post-apocalyptic film Furiosa is getting ready for a summer release. Its gripping storyline will show the early life of the titular character. The film also stars Chris Hemsworth and will focus on Furiosa’s journey, which leads to her rebellion against Immortan Joe.
Hemsworth said that filming under George Miller was a fresh experience compared to his other action flicks, including Extraction and MCU movies.
Speaking at the CCXP (Via X), He explained,
“He’s [a] violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the wasteland. He’s a product of his environment. There’s an intensity to him… he has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed and he has learned to rule with an iron fist. There’s a charisma to him and it’s a very manipulative charisma.”
Tom Hardy’s Mad Max would make an appearance in Furiosa as it is only set fifteen years prior to Mad Max: Fury Road.
Furiosa is slated to release on May 24, 2024.
