Have you ever felt so desperate and excited, eagerly waiting for updates on your favorite show, only to be met with news that sends your heart racing—for all the wrong reasons? Beau DeMayo’s recent remarks on the highly anticipated X-Men ‘97 series have left fans feeling uneasy about what’s to come in Season 2.
The showrunner’s remarks have reinforced some of our worst fears, and it seems that not even the support of fans can alter the course that the series is heading. DeMayo’s disheartening statement via X, in which he hinted at a “five-season plan” for the show, has raised concerns about the future of the popular X-Men series.
With his departure from Marvel Studios and Disney+ before the series premiere, it appears that some considerable changes are in store for the impending seasons.
Beau DeMayo’s ‘Five-Season Plan’: The Future of X-Men ‘97 ‘as We Know It?
Beau DeMayo’s recent comments regarding X-Men ‘97 have confirmed our worst fears regarding the highly anticipated Season 2… or maybe Season 3, 4, or 5.
It’s a buzzkill, no doubt, when he revealed a five-season vision and then, with a heavy heart, admitted his departure following a shocking dismissal by Marvel Studios and Disney+. DeMayo took to X with a cryptic message, leaving fans with more questions than answers.
While DeMayo’s silence on the specifics of his plans for X-Men ’97 leaves much to the imagination, his words have raised concerns among those who had hoped for a faithful adaptation of the comic book series. The show appears to be taking a different turn than expected, and it remains to be seen how viewers will react.
In this tempest of speculation and anticipation, which, to be honest, feels a bit unsettling, let us look at a few comments from fans:

While fan support can certainly influence a series’ success, it appears that DeMayo’s firing and cryptic remarks have set the stage for a potentially difficult road ahead. His departure has left many wondering if the show will be able to live up to its potential without him at the helm. With no word from any of the cast members, it is unclear what the future holds for X-Men ’97.
X-Men ‘97: Dissecting Beau DeMayo’s Controversial Departure
Beau DeMayo was going through a particularly hectic period at Marvel Studios earlier in March. The writer-producer was getting ready for the premiere of X-Men ‘97, the Disney+ series he developed as a revival of cult favorite Fox Kids program, X-Men: The Animated Series (1992–1997).
Also, he had wrapped up his writing for X-Men ’97’s second season, was arranging press, and was preparing to go to the show’s March Hollywood premiere, we learned from THR. He was even kicking around ideas for a third season with his teammates.
Marvel and DeMayo, however, abruptly called it quits later that month. The cast and crew were notified that he was no longer working on the project, and his company email was disabled. DeMayo removed his Instagram account, which was once a source of X-Men news.
Anyway, fans are sticking with the show in the hopes that it can still live up to the hype, even in the face of disappointment. However, with DeMayo’s mysterious departure and no word from the actors involved, it seems that the future of X-Men ‘97 remains a conundrum.
We also can’t deny the fact that, without his leadership, the series may struggle to live up to its potential. The first two episodes of X-Men ’97 debuted on March 20, 2024. Up until May 15, the remaining ten episodes of the first season will be released every week.
X-Men ’97 is streaming on Disney +.
