“I will not play anyone”: Zoro Actor Mackenyu Refuses to Betray One Piece For His Favourite Anime Hunter x Hunter

The One Piece Live Action team is currently enjoying the show’s success. Netflix put forward yet another blockbuster series. One Piece Live Action managed to break the curse of an anime live-action adaptation. Soon, many others will follow their path of success. But the road was not easy for them. There was a lot of work to be done since the day it was announced.

The presence of Eiichiro Oda proved to be a blessing for the One Piece Live Action team. He saw every audition tape to select the cast of One Piece. The Roronoa Zoro actor, Mackenyu, has had experience working in anime live-action adaptations, yet he had to train hard to portray Zoro. He mentioned that One Piece is not his favorite anime, yet he wants to focus on it rather than any other anime.

Mackenyu Does Not Want To Play Anyone From His Favorite Anime

Mackenyu is a Japanese actor who plays the role of Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’s One Piece. After the release of the first trailer of One Piece Live Action, the Strawhats did an interview. There were several interesting facts revealed by the cast. One of the intriguing things was the favorite anime of Mackneyu. Mackenyu was asked since he has acted in so many anime live adaptations, if there was any other anime adaptation he would like to do in the future.

Mackenyu answered to Collider Interviews by saying, “You know what, it’s not something I would like to do, but my favorite, one of my favorite anime is Hunter x Hunter, which I love, so shout out to Hunter x Hunter.” He was then asked who he would like to play. He said, “No, I will not play anyone.” It was kind of upsetting for the fans since he refused to say which character he would like to play.

Is Mackenyu Preparing Himself For Hunter x Hunter Through One Piece?

Mackenyu clearly said he loves Hunter x Hunter. He said it was his favorite, then corrected it to ‘one of his favorites’. So it can be well understood that deep inside of him, he imagines himself in the Hunter x Hunter world. But for now, he wants to focus on One Piece. He does not want to betray the fans by taking up another anime role.

Mackenyu trained hard to become Roronoa Zoro. His focus is to be the strongest swordsman. For the moment, there is no news of any Hunter x Hunter live-action. Even if there is one, Mackenyu would still be a Strawhat. After a huge success, Mackenyu is busy focusing on his second season as Roronoa Zoro.
