Sandra Bullock starred with Ryan Reynolds in the 2009 romantic comedy film The Proposal. While the movie was a massive hit among fans, earning $317 million worldwide, there were a couple of NSFW scenes.
Some fans may not be aware that Bullock and Reynolds are good friends in real life. The actress said that aside from the role she’s going to play, her co-star would also be a major reason why she would agree to the project.
Sandra Bullock Looks Back On The Proposal’s Controversial Scene With Ryan Reynolds
Joining Adam Ray in his show About Last Night Podcast, The Lost City star Sandra Bullock recalled her intimate scene with Ryan Reynolds in The Proposal. She revealed:
“We had to do the naked scene that day… we had a closed set, which means no one’s allowed to be on there, just hair and makeup coming in to fluff and hide. Ryan and I have these flesh-colored things stuck to our privates, my hair is strategically over the n*pples.”
The Oscar winner also shared some embarrassing yet funny anecdotes from the set:
“I hear Anne Fletcher from the darkness go, ‘Ryan, we can see your b*ll sack!’ I’m like, ‘Oh God!’ because you wanna look down, but I’m like, ‘Don’t look down. Don’t look down.’ But in friendship, you just didn’t care; it wasn’t my business to look… Ryan was just so cool.”
Bullock went to explain why she agreed to do the scene, and it has something to do with Reynolds being a long-time friend. The actress admitted she was comfortable with him on the set and also noted it was not a scene where she’s trying to be seductive. Bullock further added:
“I will do this naked scene only if I can be humiliated and funny. You will not see me trying to attempt being s*xy naked — in real life or onscreen. There’s just no point in it! It was for that reason, with a friend that you trusted comedically, and safety-wise I knew I was in the presence of safety.”
Interestingly, Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds have been friends since their prepubescent years, so there were no awkward feelings at all.
Sandra Bullock Will Never Go Full Bare On Movies Unless It’s For Fun
Sandra Bullock initially said no to the project because she did not want to do romantic comedies. In her interview with Glamour UK, she explained further what made her change her mind:
“I read it, and I was really upset because it was so well written. The problem, though, was who can direct a comedy like that? Who can raise the bar? Who are you going to cast? And they said, ‘What if we cast Ryan Reynolds?’ I’ve known Ryan for a while, so as soon as they said that, it made it a lot more difficult to say no to.”
Bullock does not usually bare it all in the movies, but she thought this was the perfect opportunity to do so. The Miss Congeniality star added:
“If I was going to do my full n*dity in my career, this was the perfect time to do it. If I can do it for a joke, yes, and Ryan and I wanted the laugh.”
The Proposal’s cast also included Betty White, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, and Malin Akerman.
